Question Calling all Windows7 gurus ... - 10-24-2009, 07:13 | posts: 1,170 | Location: right here | User is Offline

I have an older AMD FX-62 on a Foxconn C51XEM2AA motherboard with a PowerColor 4870 video card and 4GB of 1066 memory.

My question is will Windows 7 Home Premium (or better) run on this puppy?

I ran the compatibility program from MS and it only states that the video card will not run AERO. No biggie I guess.

Supposedly my FX-62 has Virtualization compatability.

I am concerned about the motherboard chipset, etc drivers. Most if not are most likely 32bit. I didn't any newer software at the Foxconn website.

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Your old PC will run Win7 fine, and the 4870 is Aero compatible.

As for chipset compatibility it should be fine, I have Win7 x64 and x86 dual booting on an AMD single core 2.8GHz Opteron with a Nforce 4 chipset 1gig of memory and it runs fine.

Yeah, I think you should be fine also. My current specs, as old as they are, run Win7 Ultimate like a dream. So with those parts you mentioned you should have smooth sailing. Let us know how it goes.

Up and running ... install was pretty quick too.

Now to find my way through the new maze.

Sort of like the Dungeons and Dragons game on the old main-frames.

I was also surprised about how short the installing lasted. Especially compared to vista.

That is a 2008 videocard, friend. No problems with Aero then.

Installed Bioshock and it runs smooooooooooooooothly.

I must admit I am supprised with W7 so far. I might update my other machine with W7Pro.

If it's pretty it usually sells!

Now if MS can just work out the install bugs that a lot of people seem to be experiencing...
