Default Nvidia plans new PhysX-themed graphics card - 10-22-2009, 00:00 | posts: 2,444 | User is Offline

We already spotted this in our forums yesterday but it looks like Nvidia is apparently prepping some kind of new graphics card product for a launch this fall. This week Nvidia sent out invites for...

Hardware physX acceleration might not be worth for us, but physX is not dying. The SDK for it is free, why would some game dev dismiss a free physics engine?

Yeah, PhysX is here to stay. The way it's accelerated, however, may not.

WOW, trying to sell the stuff you have in stock, what a concept.
This is a cool Idea, for people with MATX mobos with 1 PCI-E slot and things like that.

Now what would realy be cool is if, say the main card is a GTX275, if you could SLI this with your 275 so you have SLI+physX in 2 slots.

I did think of the first possibility, but the second idea you have there is even better, I hope they thought of that.

That's really cool. A gpu dedicated to rendering, and a gpu dedicated to physx all on one pcb(Or one connector. )

Oh, this old arguent again.

He bases it on him having a GPU with not enough SP.

PhysX is the only GPU physics engine, and its also the most efficient and cheapest to run physics engine full stop at the moment.

PhysX still has more upcoming GPU games than DX11, and is much easier to implement into a console port than DX11 is.
To play Batman:AA, Mirrors Edge, and Cryostasis at 50-60fps i only had to pay £30 for a cheap GPU.

To play Ghostbusters, Red Faction, GTAIV, Saints Row2 i need to get myself a Quad Core

Doesn't matter, you guys completely miss the point of PhysX in relation to game developers. One it allows the developer to sell their game. Retards see "PhysX" written all over it and they are happy. Two, it's a free SDK, devs don't care about anything but costs, because that's more money in their pockets. So ignoring the whole acceleration aspect of it, PhysX looks tasty. Also from what I've heard PhysX SDK is also getting a lot better with every release. So it sounds like devs are going to end up using it even more. As for DX11, a 3rd party company will need to support it before a dev touches it. Because it's going to be a **** ton more work for a dev to develop a internal physics engine for both DX11 and a traditional system than just doing traditional, and it's cheaper.

nvidia physx is 1 sided programmed in such way that only run great with a nvidia card.
i really do hope nvidia is forced to allow physx work on ati cards not to mention forced to let it work totaly on cpu and not just limited to 1 core.

the way it is atm i'm not suprised many games support physx yet from nvidia.

Huh? I can't even tell you the number of PhysX games I've ran on my system that play great. PhysX is fine. Nvidia shouldn't be forced to do anything, another company should come up and compete by offering a better solution.

Nvidia will never be forced to allow PhysX on ATI cards, but ATI may be forced to support PhysX.

Someone hacked Batman:AA to allow PhysX to work on mutliple cores, and even with 80% of the effects disabled, an i7 still only ran at 30fps.

Isnt this like going backwards? There was already an Agiea Physx card back in the day just for physics and it didnt do too well.
