I mean it's called full HD yet what about 2500 x 1600?

Is that the max res? What name is that?

Btw there are like 40 inch screens with 1920 x 1080 well don't u think that sort of res is a bit small for a 40 incher?

It's like using 1280 x1040 on a 24 inch monitor.

...lol?

40 inch screens use 1920x1080/1200 because it is simply expensive to manufacter that which is not needed. i have never seen a computer monitor over 30 inches, anyways. you must be talking about a TV? even a 50-60 inch TV uses 1920x1080 because thats 1080p, HD! no TV content streams at a higher resolution.

2560x1600 is only for PC montiors, and it is usually not needed unless you have the money to spend on it, it would be quite fun to have a 30 inch monitor.

Actually, high definition is any resolution higher than 720x480 (or 480p) for NTSC or I think it's 720x576 for PAL regions...

Apparently the next step is Quad HD, which has a resolution of 3820x2160. So it will be 2160p..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2160p

Sony are bringing out one next month.. for *gulp* $76,583.

actually, TVs consider these resolution to be HD for NTSC regions:
480p
720p
1080i
1080p

480i is what's considered standard definition...

and there is a difference between 40" tv lcd's and pc lcd's..the reason why u see 40" tv's at "only" 1920x1080 is because u dont sit close to a 40" tv like you would a 24" lcd..so for it to look good you sit further back..if you were to sit right up on a 40" lcd and a 24" ull definitely notice a difference

also there is larger HD's then 1080p...1600p for example its just not common yet.

480p does count as a T.V. standard, but it's not HD.
