I'd say vanilla + widescreen patch.

There's plenty of items already, though if I were you I'd get the expansion Throne of Bhaal as well. Watchers keep gets loaded into vanilla shadows of amn and it has some freaking awesome items in it.

I always like to cheat myself a couple stacks of 99999 arrows / bullets / bolts. I'd advise you to do this as they're very annoying.

Also, a quick tip, this strat is op but legit, so you may not want to use it:

Blindness is the most powerful spell before Horrid Wilting, it is much more powerful than say finger of death. Just combine it with stuff that lowers saving throws. If you get a hit off, back out of range and kill with ranged attacks.

I agree, first play it the standard way. Then mod it up. It is a fantastic game, so enjoy!

It's not an easy game either. Good old hardcore RPG.

So, use a strong class. The Kensai is incredibly awesome, and supposedly, a Kensai/mage is the strongest class in the game, but I don't know how you build one.

Are bags of holding for items, arrows, bolts as well as scroll and potion case in vanilla as well? I usually play modded to death, but if not, you might want to install that as well, makes loot hauling easier.

You can play with other mods when you finish the game at least once.

The Darkest Day is preaty good or Tactics mod when you play game for the second time.
