Default Flashing the 5870 bios - 10-10-2009, 08:56 | posts: 156

Garrett Wu from MSI has posted an official AMD-signed MSI clock unlock bios for their reference 5870 (over in Afterburner section)

He says literally nothing has changed from the original MSI bios except unlocking the arbitrary 900gpu/1300mem barrier

If I buy a reference 5870 from say Sapphire or Diamond, is it ok to flash the bios of the different brand with the MSI unlock bios, given that both are reference boards?

(I'd buy MSI, but I'm finding it much harder to find than Sapphire, and I need a card now!)

thanks

Yes, I'm using an Asus BIOS on my Sapphire card, but there was no point for me because it turns out they are both the same version BIOS (and both unlocked) just with different vendor ids.

Yep, hopefully... got an EK coming my way. Eddie has stated they shipped out yesterday but no doubt it will take a few days to get to the UK!

I think waterblocks in general have got more expensive over the last couple of years... not sure if the price of copper has gone up or if manufacturers are just cashing in on the increasing popularity of watercooling!

I have some custom watercooling on my 5870's right now. They were much cheaper then any other blocks and I'm at 24c idle, 35-37c max.
vram temp is 34 - 40c idle with a voltage of 1.35v
