Default voltage support of 5850 on Afterburner - 10-10-2009, 04:44 | posts: 135

Hi All

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ht=Afterburner
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ht=Afterburner

I found out many users said Afterburner doesn't support 5850 voltage adjustment on xtremesystem forum, but I'm sure Afterburner support it, I tested it with multimeter by running Furmark in MSI lab by myself, double confirmed it after Unwinder remind me. So I'm not sure what's going on now. maybe other board makers use different bios or something we don't know.

So, I'd like to ask for your help, if anyone has any brand 5850, please reply below if it's working or not. it will be better if you can provide I2C dump (use /i2cd,70 parameter on Afterburner.exe) or BIOS if it's not working.

edit:
It turns out AMD gave MSI an special engineer sample with different BIOS setting, which cause wrong setting for Afterburner. Sorry for inconvience, Afterburner 1.2.0 already fix 5850 voltage adjustment issue. Thanks for everyone's support.

Thanks!

What is default 3D voltage shown by Afterburner on GPU voltage graph (_not_ on the slider, on the graph)?

I have the same problem although it functioned for one moment......
It seems to be a driver problem.......without drivers the Voltage Tweak on my MSI Card functions…..

yes mine i was able to set 1.2 volts for a second on my 5850, then couldn't set again, mine is 1.087 volts stock 3d and its a powercolor one will upload my ic2 dump later today, i even tried a standard msi 5850 bios and was same, all the cards seem to have the same bios on them, the 5 on techpowerup are all the same i also tried the rc6 and rc 7 drivers and same

Looks like it has different VT1165 config comparing to 5850 sample tested in MSI lab. To modify the database to make it use your card settings try to close Afterburner, open your profile file with notepad (VEN_1002&DEV_6899&SUBSYS_0B001002&REV_00&BUS_1&DE V_0&FN_0.cfg stored into .\Profiles subfolder into application folder), and add the following text to it:

[Settings]
VT1165_Defaults = 17 33

Then start Afterburner again and see if it helps. It is important to add that if you have UAC enabled, then you must temporarily disable it prior to editing the file.

No problem, glad that it helped you. Now it would be really interesting to know why different VRM configurations are used on that MSI card and the cards released by other manufacturers.

Garrett, do you have a single sample or multiple ones in your lab? Probably the one you used is some engineering sample? Or a sample with pre-production BIOS?

Ive also tried adding the VT1165_Defaults = 17 33 to the cfg but it doesn't seem to work on my card. Voltage remains 1.087 no matter what.
