Default 5870 voltage adjustment - 10-02-2009, 15:03 | posts: 4 | Location: Netherlands

Hi Unwinder,

I don't if you're reading your pm's so I'm also dropping this here. Might be usefull for other as well.

First of al thanks for al the good work by making Rivatuner and also the new MSI Afterburner software.

This weekend we will be doing (me and some mates) an ln2 oc session at the www.tweakers.net HQ (The largest IT site in the netherlands) with a triple 5870 setup. (including ln2 on the card)

We are trying to figure out the softmod for the core voltage. Tried the regular rivatuner first, but it doesn't seem to be supporting communication with the i2c bus on the new amd cards.
After that we tried the after burner software which is working but isn't able to set the voltage higher than 1.37v which might not be enough for a ln2 session.
I found out that its possible to make an i2c dump using MSIAfterburner.exe /i2cdump, but I can't manage to read any registers (didn't try writing though).
This makes me guess that you removed the commandline tools to read and write to the i2c bus?

Is there any possibilty to extend te maximum voltage in the MSI afterburner software or do you have a beta of rivatuner which does support reading and writing to the i2c bus of the 5870?
I tried renaming and copying the RT dll files for afterburner to the newest rivatuner but that was a big fail. (ofcourse)

Yes, I have beta version of RT with I2C command line support for 58xx series. And I can also create and provide a database file allowing you to extend maximum voltage on 58xx series. I'll talk to MSI, if they don't mind and you'll promise to use the database for your private needs only - we'll send you a version with extended limits.

Ofcourse I will keep it for own use. (private)

Thank you very much.

Edit: I send you an other pm with some contact details of me and tweakers.net.

Is it also possible that you extend the clocklimit for the GPU?

Edit2: We just found out that the software can't raise the clockspeed of the third card.

No sorry, but we are not going to do this. Alex, we do no support extended voltage control outside MSI's baseline parameters.

Topic closed, next to that the OC competition is not MSI related meaning that likely a competing party to MSI is organizing it ?
