Default COD5 Benching - 5870CF review - 09-28-2009, 09:20 | posts: 8 | Location: Australia | User is Offline

Hi there, was just reading over the 5870CF review here: http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...-test-review/9

I noticed that the 5870CF setup flatlines at 85fps. It's of my understanding of the COD4 engine that there is a ~90fps cap by default, which can be disabled with the /com_maxfps XXX command.

You could imagine the ~5fps drop would come down to the odd frame dropped here and there, bringing down the average. With this cap in place it doesn't allow the GPU's to breathe and gain headroom to give a true representation of GPU performance in this game.

Anyhoo, just my 2c, hopefully the benchers for Guru could take this into consideration for future COD4/5 reviews

Cheers

Yes we have com_maxfps at 999 at default in our config. It really is a bottleneck, likely the CPU,

You can simply move the whole Steam folder to a different partition/HDD and make a new shortcut to the steam.exe. Steam takes care of the rest.

Steam will allow you to make backups of your games in CD Format (600 MB per backup file) or DVD Format. Simply open your steam games list, go to file at the menu bar, and then click backup games. You can then choose what games you want to backup and then choose the directory you wish to drop them to.

You can even get fancy and send them to shared drives, etc. It is very easy to restore the game files once they are backed up. Go to the directory you backed up them to, and run the restore exe, and it will run a wizard to reinstall the game data.

It's weird how modern warfare 2 does'nt seem to have a cap.. The fps I took went from 300 to 600 with quadfire enabled... They also got rid of the multi gpu option it looks like..

i dont think anyone will get a fps a fair amount over 300 with only 1 gpu, so i think they enabled that option by default
