Question Compression artifacts on wallpaper windows 7 - 09-12-2009, 11:37 | posts: 1,700 | Location: Amman, Jordan | User is Offline

I've been trying some online tutorials on creating abstract images, and i wanted to use one of them as a wallpaper, but i keep getting compression artifacts on the images. i've tried JPG, PNG and BMP and I'm still getting them when i set the image as wallpaper. Any Ideas on how to get around this?

Is the resolution of the wallpaper the same as your desktop's?

Could you post a screenshot/picture of the artifacts?

Just use the "Prt Scr" key on your keyboard to take a screenshot of your desktop, save it as a jpg (with the best possible quality setting), upload it to a free image hosting web site like imageshack.us, and post the link to it in this thread. This way we would know what kind of artifacts you're talking about.

(Or upload the wallpaper to imageshack and I'll take a look at it.)

OK. Now we're talking.

I downloaded the original and put it as a wallpaper on my desktop and definitely do not have those artifacts, although I'm using the same OS as you - the Windows 7 RC.

More than weird. What picture position do you have selected? Fill, fit, stretch, tile, or center?

p.s.: The only thing I can think of is the limited amount of RAM that you have - the 1 GB in your profile. Maybe Windows is compressing the image to save memory?
