Default Dual Raid-2 in raid 1 & 2 in Raid 0 - Can it be done - 08-23-2009, 20:51 | posts: 101 | Location: Oklahoma | User is Offline

I am purchasing HDD's for my comp build. The following is what I would like to do but not sure if the system can do it (or me, lol).

I would like to buy 1 SSD 120GB drive for OS and other programs like office, etc. Here's the one I am looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233087

Is 120GB big enough for Win 7 and other programs - How much space does Win 7 take up?

I already purchased 2 - 300GB Velociraptors. I want to put these in Raid 0 for all my games and other programs that won't fit on SSD and don't need the SSD speed.

Also, I have already purchased 1 -WD RE3 1TB drive for data, etc but I want to get another WD RE3 and set them in Raid 1.

Questions:
1) Can I set up 2 Raid configurations, 1 - Raid 0 and another Raid 1 and have SSD as main drive for OS
2) After installing Win 7 on SSD approximately how much space is left. What type of other programs is recommended to install on the SSD (antivirus, MS office apps or what)?
3) If I can set system up with Dual Raid configuration, How do I do it. (The P6T7 says it has a seperate SAS raid controller but none of the drives I am buying are SAS drives, plus I heard many people are having problems with the SAS Raid part) Can the "normal sata port" section be done in dual raid.

** Sorry I don't know much about Raid except what I have read and this is my first comp build - LOL**

SYSTEM:
*ASUS P6T7 mobo (I am still looking at Classified - hoping they get bugs worked out by the time i purchase it - although, the P6T7 has 4x16bandwith PCIE slots)
*Thermaltake Armor+ case
*BFG Tech EX-1200 PSU
*Core i7 975

NOTE: OS will be Windows 7 64bit

Any other information on system you may need please let me know and I will edit in

Thanks for your help

I think maybe RAID0 the Velociraptors and leave the SSD alone and the 2 1TB in RAID1.

You will have to give a link to the mobo manual unless someone else knows how do RAID on that. I only know how to on the Geforce 8300 NB/SB/GPU.

Thats what I want to do is have the SSD by it self for OS and the 2 Velociraptors in Raid 0 and the 2 WD RE3 1TB in Raid 1. Just not sure if system can do it or How to Do It.

I have looked in the manual and mobo can do 2 seperate raid configurations BUT, I think 2 of the HDD's must be SAS drives. I don't think any of the drives (velociraptors or the RE3) are SAS drives. But Can the system still do dual raid setup without SAS drives - is it possible to do a dual raid set up with what I have, and HOW?? lol.

Please HELP - i'm learning and well I'm an idiot
