Looks good. I wonder if they'll come out with a 3.6Ghz CPU?

Yes, it's great value for money. I won't be buying a new PC until the new Core i9 launch happens, though. I only buy high-end stuff.

Looks good, but my Phenom II 810 does everything I want and need. Now if randomly I was fed a couple hundred bucks outta the blue, maybe I'd get a better board to do serious OC and get DDR3 RAM.

Yeah I'm seriously considering going with one of these over an i7 860, then again it's all irrelevant until I get a job or maybe christmas, whichever comes first

wow this thing can keep up with an i7 920 fairly well too!

(minus the ones that were extremely threaded)

You didn't include the Q9550? That's the direct price/performance competitor to this chip isn't it?

It's certainly more tempting to go with that chip and platform rather than dishing out a fair bit more for an i7 system, especially since I could even keep my current memory. Hard thing to pass up really as I'm certainly ready for a platform change.

Which benchmarks were you looking at? In nearly all the tests, the X4 965 got beaten by the i7 920. Heck, in most of them it still got beaten by the QX9770!

i said 'keep up' and by that i meant not totally run over. and the tests that i was looking at were like the 3dmark ones, queen, zlib, gaming ones. so for the price this chip rocks

I don't know but for some crappy reason AMD products here are freakin expensive (Phenom ii 940BE @ $283 :bang: ). Else would love to switch to some AMD BE beast and OC it to Hell.

Hilbert one question why is 3dmark06 scores so low? is it tested in vista?

    I get better score on stock than q9770, now at 3.52ghz - 5780 or @ 3.2ghz - 5360 vs q9770 with 4700

It's a synthetic test, so while it does show basic power of the cpu, it doesn't show the real potential of the cpu. It could be something though like cache. Who knows.

Yup the 965 looks nice. But the only problem is, you OC the i7 920 to 3.8-4ghz, the 965 will not be keeping up anymore.

    I'm not impressed....

600Mhz OC on an unlocked multi? AMDs BEs have never wowed me... I can get far more outta any intel standard Proc I've ever had on cheap air. Only recently did I get my uberSink. My E6600 got up to 3800+ on air, thats 1200MHz up. My E8400 Ran at 4.20...another 1.2GHz up. My current Q9550 is at 4GHz, almost 1.2GHz up. Seems to be a pattern there lol... 1200 OC before I have to wrestle with stability...hmmm

Not tryin to be a fanboy.... the value is excellent and I've built a few AMD systems for friends on a budget... I'm just not buying into the OC prowess of the Black editions...What do you get outta a standard chip? 250-300MHz of Headroom?

    Maybe I'm missin somethin?

    Zyro -confused-
