hey everyone, dont jump all together...
sure it has a few minor bugs, but when tweaked the right way it runs smooth as silk(on the right hardware)
also very user friendly imho

Wouldn't totally agree, my Vista x64 SP2 and W7 x64 are very similar, but prefer W7 for games, but Vista for movies and browsing etc...

you get smoother 3d gaming in 7? and it is less convenient for movies and web?
Haven't tried 7 myself as it is supposed to be vista with a few tweaks...

Yeah, usually about 5-10% more framerates, and GPU runs a touch cooler in 7.

Windows7 comes with alot of video codecs built in, which is great for some people, but i like to tinker, and MS don't make it easy for you to use your own ones.

i think the OP is trying to start another OS war, there are already dozens of threads displaying everyones opinion on which OS they think is best. That being whichever the user prefers.

Yes Vista will support DX11, as well as better SSD support in a future update, maybe even service pack im on not sure on that one.

But if you love SP1 so much, you should install SP2, it really is a smoother experience.

windows vista X64 SP1 & SP2 have been flawless on my desktop, but i had vista basic on my laptop and it was HORRIBLE.

vista is great for my gaming PC, but i will eventually upgrade to windows 7 X64.

though for my laptop, i've noticed the W7 beta had much better performance than even windows XP on my laptop.

I'd have to say that Windows 7 seems to be better but it’s almost like a vista re-release with a new name and none of vistas bad hype. I think Microsoft learned a lesson from all the bad beta testing on vista and were more careful about what they released to the public. I remember trying to install a stinky beta build of vista on an nforece 3 platform and the nightmare which ensued. No matter which OS I use I still can’t get a 64 bit driver for my x-fi extreme gamer card which crashes my computer on install, both vista 64 and Windows 7 64 have this problem.

Yeah if Linux supported all my games then it would be no competition. i used xp64 for years it only failed in the drivers department and codies developing in 64bit.today im running Windows 7 64bit and its pretty good imho, didn't rate Vista much way too buggy for me and slowed my frame rates down .

Someone I knew bought a PC and it got vista pre-installed and it run like ****. Manufacturer should never install vista on a low power PC ever! The reason I hate vista is that MS 'force' everyone to use it but the manufacturer and the retailer did not even care about the computer spec at all.

Not to mention the layers of menu in CP is horrible, digging in 10 layers of menu option just to find what you need.

Then you won't like Win 7 either. Same layout just different looks, and uses a bit less resources.

I prefer XP.
Vista and Win7 are too cluttered...

Anything before XP and win2000 was pretty much hopeless. Stability was not to be found in those OS's.

I also like Vista x64, since SP1 it has run smooth as silk for me to. Before SP1 i was thinking of giving it away - now i'm glad i hanged on until sp1 (running vista x64 sp2 at the moment). I also like the security improvements like uac and such, haven't had any viruses or spyware in a long time while XP was a real hassle on that front. But who knows what will happen when Vista and Windows 7 becomes more popular than XP.
