Default question with d3doverrider & triple buffering - 07-16-2009, 13:10 | posts: 10

I Have a Q6600, xp sp3, gtx280 and 185.66 driver.
I would like to know if If I turn on vsync in driver option and if I turn on triple buffering and I turn off vsync in d3d overrider, triple buffering is activated or not?

I must turn on vsync in d3d overrider or not to activate triple buffering?

I ask that because vsync option in d3doverrider doesn't work very well and vsync optio nin driver works very well.

for example, with Anno1404 demo, vsync option in d3doverrider doesn't work. alhtough vsync option in nvidia driver works.

another example. In TDU I have 60 fps with vsync turn off, 60 fps with vsync turn on in nvidia driver and 40 fps with vsync turn on in d3d overrider.

last example, vsync option in d3doverrider doesn't work with opengl game (doomsday) and vsync option in nvidia driver works also with opengl games.

I use d3doverrider 2.0.1

the examples are above

If anybody can help me, thank you very much.

Why make life miserable for yourself? Why not enable them on both driver options and D3D Overrider? That way you avoid any possible conflicting readings. Or disable them both if you wish. Its like enabling AA in driver settings and disabling it in-game settings. Now it doesn't take a genius to know that that spells trouble.

I don't want to disable them both. I want them both.

I explained above why:

If vsync in d3doverrider works always, I have never asked this question. I ask only because vsync option in d3doverrider works bad and not in all games. vsync option in nvidia driver works well with all games

please, if anybody can asnwer me: thank you very much

Some programs don't like or will not work with D3DOverrider, it's been discussed in the forum before, have you searched?

For programs that don't work with D3DO, you have to tell it to not use it. See context help in D3DO.

thank you very much but it's not the problem here. I ask a different question.

I only want to know if triple buffering option in d3doverrider works if I use vsync option in nvdia driver and not vsync option with d3doverrider?

If anybody can answer at my question and only at my question, thank you very much

Why do you have vsync enabled? Are you experiencing screen tearing?

yes and another problem (it's useless to describe it here) but it's not the problem here to know if I must turn on vsync or not but to know if triple buffering option i nd3d overrider is activated if I use vsync option in nvidia driver instead of using vsync option in d3d overrider..

D3D tripplebuffer doesnt work in openGL! Its for directX games.
Btw nvidia has implemented tripplebuffer in driver control panel, that one is for openGL games..

and D3D tripplebuffer forces vsync if u have it enabled or not, but ye sometimes it isn't supported correctly, might wanna look which games support it or not, and some have it already so u don't need to force..

if i only turn on D3D triple buffering, vsync is not activated. I tried with many games.
I must turn on vsync to have vsync activated.

I've been using Unwinder's excellent D3DOverrider utility for a few years now and it works brilliantly in all the games that support it.

I tend to add new DX9/10 games to D3DOverrider and force triple buffering on for them (unless they have compatibility issues, in which case I either disable or delete it). I usually enable v-sync through the game, or if the game doesn't have it, via the control panel game profile. I don't usually enable v-sync through D3DOverrider unless there's no game profile (it's quicker than creating a new one).

In my experience I haven't noticed any differences in the way triple buffering works if I force v-sync via the graphics drivers (game profiles) or D3DOverrider so I don't believe it matters which method you use, triple buffering will still work fine.

I use the game profiles though to force v-sync in games that don't support it via an in-game option because it is more conventient, particularly if I'm also forcing AF and/or AA too. I only use D3DOverrider because the game profiles do not support triple buffering for DX games.
