Default Speedfan temps - "Remote 1" @ 56+ celcius - 06-04-2009, 22:23 | posts: 53 | Location: CA | User is Offline

With "Remote 1" I have a reading of 56c Idle; I have yet to clock temps at a higher load.

My CPU a la' Core Temp reads 41c idle (45~48/50 load).

SpeedFan temps @:

Remote 1 - 56c
Remote 2 - 39c
Local - 31c
Core - 42c

CCC overdrive reads as 40c

wtfh is Remote 1? And Remote 2 for that matter.. it's (SpeedFan) saying its an ATI bus, so I assume it has something to do with my card.

Just wanted to be sure. Any help identifying the other temps (Local, Remote 2) would be of great assistance!!

thanks

I see your using a 790FX board, my Gigabyte P35 chipset does register "Remote 1" at all with speedfan ( v4.37) This is very interesting.
Try a third opinion. Rivatuner (2.24) it monitors the GPU temperature the same as CCC (drivers Win 7 64 bit 8.612 aka 9.5)

'Local' would be your motherboard hardware monitoring chip. 'Remote' 1 and 2 are from a remote sensor somewhere on the board connected to pins on the hardware monitor chip, possibly the chipset or something else.

could it be my Northbridge?

The only other things I find hot by touch are the NB and PSU. Everything else is cool, or at least normal.

I'm worried now what this temp might be; I just picked up the Sims 3 and about 20 minutes into every game, my computer decides to scramble and hang.

What I mean is the screen scrambles many different colors; looks like multicolor static except the cursor is fine, and the computer hangs. Absolutely no response from it. I have to soft/hard reboot.

Idk if this is just with that game? Perhaps bad ram? Something is overheating and it idles at 60c.

I just inverted my other window fan; now there are two intake fans blowing on the cpu and gfx card. I'm looking at it [the temperature] this very moment and it says 57c.

Even playing maxed out settings in Empire Total War, it only gets up to about 63/65. The highest I've seen it was 67c about half an hour before this posting whilst alt/tabing out of the Sims. I've crashed/hanged two times now, both while playing that game.

I need to figure this out. I just built this rig 2 days ago. please, help.

thanks

If you just built the rig you need to possibly rethink how much thermal paste you have used for the CPU cooler, is the CPU cooler sitting correctly and tightly on the CPU. That can lead to a restart.
I assume that your GPU cooler is stock. Idle temps for that particular card are around 50 to 60. Run the GPU fan on high while gaming. As I said before get another software to monitor your temps to get a better reference.

GPUZ is good or
hardware monitor from cpuid.com
rivatuner

Of course the dumb things like the latest GPU drivers and Dirext X updates etc.

Everything is seated correctly. Everything was static free etcetc. I have all the latest drivers for everything including the latest BIOS flash etc. Crashing/hanging happened before the flash, too.

Nothing is OC (lol why would I need to with the X2?)

Temp readings from Real Temp, CPUTemp, GPUZ, CPUZ, SpeedFan and RivaTuner are all the same.

The only different thing is the "Remote 1" reading from speedfan which, I found out, is fan port 1. Right next to my NB.

Its definitely the northbridge. If anyone looks up the board specs I have (MSI 790FX GD70) then you'll notice that it supports hyperthreading so that's a big concern with the temps going as high as they are on the NB.

Today, I'm gonna reseat the heatsink on it and reapply some higher thermal conductive paste (OCZ Freeze) but other than that, idk what to do.

The temps on that thing reach 65+ when gaming. My room is really cold right now, so its idling at 54c atm. I assume the computer locks up when it hits around 68~70c. Nothing is suppose to be that hot.

I'm also quite well aware that the Sims 3 atm has crashing issues already. Many different people have claimed many different issues with the game. Some variations include crashing to desktop, crashing computer, game can hang and must be shutdown through task manager, even a forced restart of their computer. Though, I suspect most of the issues people have are one in the same to have a computer that's not quite up to par with the games specs because none of them have exclaimed their system specs, yet.

There are no problems with airflow in my case; I get well under 60c on my 4870 X2 even at full load which is practically unheard of. Nothing is water cooled, either.

If anyone has anything to help, now, please let me know. Also, if you'd be so kind (I'm constantly actively searching) as to maybe look up a cooling solution for my NB, it would be incredibly appreciated!

thanks

RMA monday. Ordering a new one nextday/overnight.

I hope this solves the problem; hopefully it was a faulty board. tbh, I wouldn't want to use anything else; this board is beast!

I hit around 68 playing Crysis Warhead maxed (enthusiast settings) full 1080p HD, so I guess it was just the Sims 3 doing what it was doing. Still, the NB is getting way too hot.

NB and mosfets, to be specific. Probably a faulty converter or transformer.. whichever it may be.

I doubt there's anything physically wrong with your board, besides if it's only crashing while playing the Sims game right?

About your NB heatsink get some kind of active cooling on it, as case airflow isn't always sufficient to cool things down. Just zip tie a small fan to it or grab an Antec Spotcool.

I believe I have more reason to assume it's something wrong with hardware.

I've come to find a very subtle buzzing sound coming from the NB.

@ Angershark: Nothing else in my case is hot so why should the NG be, especially considering the temps I'm getting with the 4870 X2? I think the buzzing sound hit the nail on the head, imo.

Just sounds like some fault capacitor/transformer etc.

Just out of curiousity what kind of case do you have and how is your case cooling set up?
Fans etc...
I know the stock coolers on the 4870X2 may keep the card cool but it is not very efficient in pushing hot air OUT of the case. Are you getting any hot air on that part of the mother board, just out of interest.

one front intake 110cfm 120mm, one rear exhaust 110cfm 120mm, one evercool f1 pci slot exhaust, one evercool f2 pci slot exhaust, one vantec dual pci slot fan, two 57cfm 120mm side intake fans. stock 4870x2 is at 50% always.

I've a Thermaltake VG7000BWS Soprano. Nothing hot is hitting that area, either.

where did you ever hear that the 4870X2's fan isn't efficient as pushing air out? I understand a lot of other similar coolers aren't good and exhausting air, but specifically the 4870X2? The thing is air sealed from the outside. it only pushes outwards the rear of the case and nothing more. I've verified it myself. even so, they were developed and manufactured to be that way, stock; idk where you're getting your information? The blower on this card is one of the best, if not the best, blowers ever developed, regardless of brand.
