I manually put 1.275 Vcore for 172 Bclk x 21 (~3.6ghz) and temps still go to 80c in Prime. Fan is 1600 RPM, doesn't seem to go higher...

Not the Prime95 temps I expected for a little 3.6 OC.

Not the Prime95 temps I expected for a little 3.6 OC.

try the prime 95 regular torture test, simply cos thats all ive used and i cant compare or test that with the hot weather we're having here

mmm seems 2 hot to me. with artic silver 5 paste applied properly should be lower...

shouldnt be more than a pea-sized amount really. what i do is cover the cpu and the heatsink..making sure none goes over the edge's. u can spread it on with a plastic spreader but most of the time i use my finger. i think if both the heat sink and cpu are covered with the artic 5 it's generally enough.

(when applying to the heatsink u can estimate roughly the area needed cos it will be the same as the cpu surface area).

regards the fan..1600rpm seems a bit low to me. i'd go for 2..the noctua or the true 120 extreme will let u fit x2 on. this will have to be done outside of the case most likely.

i attached to my noctua one of the fans that comes with the heatsink but i found this to be on the weak side so added my ys-tech which i know moves around 100cfm of air. ideally u want 2x of these. (but my ys-tech is around 35dcb so noise-wise it's right on the wire as it were)

i was lucky i put the heatsink in horizontally and even though the ys-tech fan isnt secured with clips it's a tight fit and its resting on top of the heatsink it cant fall off

u might have to take out the whole think re-apply paste..make sure u have some good fans. can suggest a couple if u like. i know it's a major shag but worth it for piece of mind and to be able to push that cpu of your's.

with 1.26vcore it shouldnt be over 70c in my opinion. am not sure what your air temps are of the case or what your air flow/cable management is like though..

My Noctua with all my fans at low tops out at 72C at 1.32v with IC Diamond 7.

Well guys I've come to the conclusion that my case isn't really breathing and the fan that came with the heatsink is PURE crap. I did some testing by removing the side panel then simulating ''case fans'' with some fans I got this and there. By these testing, I definately go from 80c to 70c. I'm gonna work on better CPU fans/Case fans Breathing and mod the case a bit.

To be honest, I don't have any case fans (except the back one) and the case is pretty cheap and crap.

It doesn't breath at all!

man, you have too good a rig to have it housed in a crap case. Ive the same case over 4 builds so far( 5 years ) and its still going strong, knocked it over while drunk, abuse it regularly lol and still going goodo. Its not the most uber case - Gigabyte Aurora, but it has decent cooling with 1 intake fan on the front and 2 on the back it does the job sofar

It's personnally my 2nd rig and unfortunately, I still have to learn a lot. I always bought cheap ass case and it's today that I see that the case is REALLY important. I'm still young, still learning the damn computer world. It's okay, I'm gonna buy some fans and mod it. My dad and I like to mod things

Just learned that I need a 4 pin fan for CPU Speed changing right? The one that came with my TRUE is just a 1600 rpm 3 pins (~1534). I just don't think that it does a good job...

lol,ahh no worries,everyone has to start somewhere, hope you get the temps down with additional fans. Its great if you like modding, im too crap at the likes lol

lol,youre on a spending buzz. Sorry i cnt comment on the TRUE, id imagine they've their own fans to sell unless you want to go cheapo and fit your own but you may have issues with mounts then.

As for case fans, it really depends on the case and if it can take regular 120mm fans or not

tbh i think you would gain more from case fans than for an extra fan for the TRUE. I know benchmarks for m Noctua report a 5C difference only between 1 and 2 fans.

I will have to make my own mounting holes on the case hehehe

We'll find a way. So I guess any 80-120mm would do. I'm not ready to go get a new pricy case & change everything.

afaik 3 pin fans are still able to be speed controlled via the bios.. (not sure)

the fourth pin is for software based speed control (pwm software i think it's called.. once again my knowledge is sketchy)

i just base this upon an older amd machine i have in the house, and it has a 3 pin fan on the cpu heatsink and it's able to go slower or faster depending on the temperature.

I am about to order 2x1600rpm Scythe S-Flex fans for my TRUE....28dba but over 60cfm so should shift some air whilst staying pretty quiet.

Have you used the washer mod for your TRUE (eg http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...od-thingy.html) ??

casewise i'd buy either the haf932,antec1200,thermaltake spedo advanced or the coolermaster cosmos looks nice. (have the haf932 and although maybe not as good looking as the others its an easy build and the cooling is great).

regards the fans. 4-pin means u cant change it's speed in the bios. plugs directly into psu. i like this arrangement as i buy my fans to run on max anyways. johnny manc's fan suggestion is good..here's a couple of mine.

Might try the washer trick for the TRUE. I am using the washer, and although it did nothing for me, some people said it worked wonders for them..so might be worth the try.

Couldnt find em anywhere over here, so I settled in ordering a pair of Xigmatek fans (like Hallryu's), but they look sweet (if the db vs cfm is true)

Well I ordered a couple of fans and will mod my case ahah. Fans are pretty cheap actually so if it doesn't work, I will just lose about 30$ lol.

The difference is INSTANT when my case is breathing. It's a matter of 10c load difference, even better.

I will never ever neglect the case cooling anymore...

hope it works out better for u. fingers crossed. yep case and cpu fans cant be skimped on..you could be looking at 10c-20c. ten degress for the case n good cable management. ten degrees for a good aftermarket cooler. (perhaps a wee bit less).

also room temp ofc a major factor

if i was abroad aircon would most likely be a necessity..

Lucky you..mid 40'c here

..but keep inside around 21c..and using a 1500W 220/110 down converter for all my computer stuff...glad the electric bill is part of my rent..lol

Hey guys, thanks for all the advice. I have one here for you:

Do you have HT on or off. I tried HT on/off in games and it's pretty much the same thing. But the heat seriously dropped with HT off, so that means a potential higher OC.

Should I keep it on or off, I just play games only.

You know, I went from 80c+ to 65c Prime95 load 3.6 ghz just by making my case breathing and HT off and tweaking the Vcore down (since I have a d0)
