Maybe because its basically a mini computer in there. Then you factor in the software they would have made themselves and any other components used.

I really would like to have one of these, but currently this is exactly the reason why I simply can't afford to get one.

Maybe I'll just "abuse" my wife's PC as a NAS. Hm...
