Default HD 4870 x2 Installation problems? - 04-17-2009, 16:46 | posts: 5

I built my new gaming rig and Im having problems with catalyst and getting the card to work. When I tried downloading drivers via catalsyst I got some kind of error halfway through and I tried to push through but my computer restarted and ended up in safe mode. This rig is brand and my first build ever.
Is there a things that I should have on the machine before even installing the drivers? Like SP 1 or 2 DirectX C++. That type of thing. Then what version of catalyst is stable? do I even need catalyst.
Phenom 2 x4 940
MSI Ka-92 Platnium
Corsair 800 wat modulated PSU
Corsair dominator pc-8500 4gb
ATI Radeon Hd4780 x2 video card.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you get the specific error posted here? That would be helpful. Did you connect BOTH power cables to the card? Did you use the same or different rails from your psu? Is your RAM properly seated? Did your video card snap properly into place and have the clip holding it on the end of the connector?

I check all of those things and they are good to go. I will copy the specific error if i get it again. I downloaded like 49 updates for vista and repaired my OS with dvd because catalyst installer was stuck On my computer I could not unistall/repair or change it. I was going to try downloading the drivers manually and see what that gets me. Or try catalyst 9.2. I am even thinking about upgrading the BIos on the mobo since that chipset is lame and doesnt recognize my phenom 2
