Hi all I have a laptop with vista on it.I was trying to re install the factory backup from the harddrive using D2d recovery via e-recovery on an Acer 5920.It wouldnt complete finishing at 96%.

Any way I cant access the OS.So I borrowed a Vista Ultimate DVD from a friend which was a Ahem "dodgy copy",basically a pre activated copy. Can I now use the change Serial key function within windows to put in my legit Home premium serial key in to activate it,hopefully rescuing my PC?

My laptop did not come with discs just the hidden partition.

Yes you can do it, I do it all the time with my toshiba off my ultimate disk. You just have to install the version the code if for is all. It Will not allow you to change versions is all. But then you will have to go about finding drivers and so forth so right down what you have from device manager, I would just worry about pertinent stuff mostly. Just to the laptop and when you get it all configured just make a image then next time you will be good to go k.
