so basically this adds OpenGL 3.1 support for G80 and up GPU's?

Quote:
Windows drivers version 182.47 and Linux drivers version 180.37.04 provide beta support for OpenGL 3.1 and GLSL 1.40 support (as well as full OpenGL 3.0 and GLSL 1.30 support)..

Thx for the heads up... But people remember these are developer drivers, so consider them highly "alpha"...

You may keep your 'old' PhysX-Drivers... even with the 182.46 whql these 9.9.0.203 (or so) are the newest available.

So what impact does this have on current games? Does anything use OpenGL 3.1 yet?

I'm still testing 185.26, I'm not even going to begin to touch these yet.

Maybe eventually after some others show comparisons.

Nvidia could release a driver where all they did was correct a spelling mistake in a readme file and people would still talk about they just gained 10,000 fps in xx game or how the image quality of the driver is so much better then the previous.

... they probably won't for the "end-user" drivers though. These are probably lacking physx just because they're dev drivers.

Personally, like many "power users," I really hate when you install a game and the installer also launches the directX, physx and visual c++ redistributable installers, along with perhaps its own online matchmaking service.

Pure annoyance, but I just cancel them as they launch and sigh.

Here lately I've been extracting the files and removing the damn physx crap and then installing them... I've not found a big benefit for it yet in my gaming performance so ohh well. Its time they allow us to download that alone if we need it or want it.

Default Great for me! - 03-25-2009, 11:19 | posts: 3 | User is Offline

OK. So I have 2 GTX 260/216's in SLI, and in the third slot a QuadroFX 3700 for work (also used as Physx card). Drivers are incompatible. As a result I have two vista installations to seperate the drivers. So I have to restart and choose the other windows installation to change from work to play.
I always wondered why Nvidia didn't realize people would be using the 3 PCI-E slots to make hybrid comps that do both work and play. I wished I had a multi-driver that allowed Quadro and Geforce to both work. It seems they are doing that now! So yay. But i'm not getting rid of my friggin partition and moving everything. Too late for that.

I think they are already doing that cause I havent really noticed any difference in the last 20 drivers in COD4.LOL It has always played great and about the same for over a year now.

That would be because most driver updates are aimed at GT200 based cards, the G92 has already reached it's maximum potential. The only updates in new drivers for G92 based cards now is normally stability or compatibility updates.
