Default ATI Catalyst 9.2 XP|Vista Driver Discussion - 02-20-2009, 09:22 | posts: 501 | Location: Maryland | User is Offline

AMD has just released ATI Catalyst version 9.2, as always these drivers have been mirrored Guru3D.com
Catalyst™ 9.2 brings performance benefits in several cases where framerates are CPU-limited. Some measured examples are:
  • Crysis DX10 gains up to 20%
  • Crysis Warhead DX10 gains up to 20%
  • World in Conflict gains up to 5% .
Now the new driver also enables Anisotropic Filtering for DirectX 10 applications in Windows Vista and fixes some minor issues that occured in previous versions. For the full list of fixes, please read the Catalyst 9.2 release notes.

Hah......just checked it myself and it is indeed over. Hopefully these work better in win7 than 9.1 did (all kinds of awkward problems in source-based games).

Check your C:\ (drive) to see if you see a folder called C:\ATI\ if so delete it before installing Cat 9.2. Although I am sure Cat 9.2 will do that automatically it doesn't hurt to make sure it's deleted manually 1st before installing Cat 9.2. Carry on...

Installed over top with no issues, I still get flickering / missing textures in Source engined games after S3 sleep with CAT AI enabled though......

Its the only real problem I have with the drivers which is a shame.

That was odd.....I couldnt get these to install at all on Windows 7 (I know I know, Vista drivers on win7)........I had to completely uninstall the old drivers (9.1) and reboot before these would install. Hope it fixes the issues I have been having though (source games randomly locking up, forcing me to force quit them only to have my monitor order reversed.....some source games not starting properly, forcing me to ctrl+alt+delete, cancel, then maximize back into the game before I see any output, etc).

If you want to consider this an age issue (your admission of using an illegal copy of Vista and, admitting that using SP2 could have ill effects. Then changed your post ) then it would have been mature of you not to reply. Something to think about.
---------------------------------------------------
In any case, I had no problem installing Cat 9.2.

I did have an illegal copy of Vista. SP2 would have an effect on the vista loader I was using which makes the vista genuine. I could of simply update the loader to be compatible with SP2. Easy to fix but don't have to deal with that thanks to a friend.

You must have an illegal copy of Vista according to Eastcoasthandle. (sarcasm)
