Dr. Michael Schuette? More like Dr. Frankenstein, eh?

Finally, a first step into the right direction, until I'm able to "install" myself onto my PC.

j/k (insider)

p.s.: This device kind of reminded me of the game "Alpha Waves". Maybe some of you still remember it...

No lol.. its a "suplement" there to help you. you could set it up so you could jump or/and shot instead of presssing the space bar and mouse button. or you could have it set up so you can change weapons just by moving your jaw etc etc

it will be a while yet untill things like this will actually be able to allow you to controll your pc with just a thought.

Good article, Hilbert. It looks like you really want to give this thing a chance, before making a final judgment. This thing better be good, considering the time and effort it takes to get it to work.

How effective will it be though when you unknowingly start making your gamer faces?

Nonetheless, we're one step closer to virtual reality.

I enjoyed reading this. Hilbert, would it be possible to post a short gameplay video with a running commentary so we could get a better idea of what it's like?

I'm not sure I'd be able to game with it...I enjoy the physical movement of my arms/hands during the gameplay. Keeps it more interactive.

For daily tasks though...man that would be great. Sitting at my comp, clicking icons just by looking at them. Would make work much easier working on the servers all day just clicking and typing away. I have to squeeze a stress ball all day just to keep my wrists from cramping up.

If that's the only thing you want then why not use this:

TrackIR.

Natural Point.

With TrackIR you need move your head while you dont need do it with NIA and is more cheaper.

Is perfect for Simulators.

I agree. But I think TrackIR is easier to master.

Well, a controller that responds to my thoughts would sure be helpful for any RTS game. Half the time I just can't move fast enough to do what I need to.

I had my school buy three of them for an IT project. My goal was to identify some device, let's say a lightbulb and drive it using the NIA. We did pretty well even if we couldn't get a true UPnP lightbulb but used a virtual one. For recognition we used 2D tags and a webcam.

What to conclude is that you really neeed a LOT of time to train yourself to the NIA, and the NIA to you... Because it slowly calibrates on your signal. (never let it on, but not on your head or it will try to calibrate on... nothing !). Hard to get it work fine in rooms with technology everywhere.... but still very fun to use after a bit of training.

IMO it's a cool gadget, but not yet easely usable.
