Default ATI Catalyst 8.12 AVIVO Converter thread - 12-10-2008, 13:53 | posts: 2,535 | Location: South Dakota | User is Offline

Seeing as anything talking about the AVIVO converter would be lost in the regular thread about the driver (people complaining and other people saying they have no problems), I decided to create this thread for the converter itself.

So far I have done some video testing and holy smokes its fast. I didn't time it but I encoded a full DVD (vobs) into MP4 (output 1gb) around 5 mins. That is a hellava lot faster than doing on the CPU.

Anyways, I however, under any setting cannot get the audio to encode with it, anyone have such luck?

I haven't tried converting from DVD to MP4 yet....though if I get a chance later I'll give it a shot and let you know how it turns out for me. Seems the AVIVO converter working is hit or miss. Some of us got lucky....others are claiming that ATI ripped them off or lied to them. Nice to see I'm not the only one that has it working though. Thanks for that bit of good news.

There are times with bigger files that it won't show the work it is doing, something to do with not being able to know how big the file is, so it just runs until it shuts off, but the file is getting bigger and will finish.

Nothing here. No gpu used at all. Full 100% CPU. And the file it has converted, doesn't contain the movie itself, only the sound. No matter what codec. My quess is that Stream... isn't installed....or isn't activated... F@H performance hasn't improved. So that could mean that stream isn't working/installed at all.

Did you watch your GPU activity in the ATI Overdrive, mine shows use. Did you install the separate AVIVO file? 64 or 32 bit?

Yes, I did. I have the 64-Bits version from a separate package (the 8.12Beta's). What I did notice is that during the convertion of a file, the GPU activity peaked every 3 to 4 seconds. But CPU still @ full 100 %.

You are using the Beta? I am using the official drivers from their website.

Won't do vob files. when you select dvd, it just converts to a mpg file. Don't know what they were thinking there. Better to use convertxtodvd or fabdvd. It's fast enough for what few file types is does support. It will take a vob and convert it to something else.

I get no sound but video...lol. I imagine their first go round with this isn't super awesome. I do dearly hope that they get some of this fixed in newer versions as I really like the speed in which I can encode a DVD of mine for my PSP or computer.
