Nice review.
That card is certainly a beast, but it's a bit excessive with that cooling system!

Looks like a great card.
I was wondering if it is possible at all to use it in Crossfire. It will probably need a longer cable for that. If Hilbert wrote about it then I may have skipped it by accident.
Thanks for the review.

It takes up 3 slots. I don't think most motherboards would have room for two of them!

Hugely impressive memory overclock. Given how framebuffer limited Crysis Warhead is wouldn't that have been the better game to show the overclocked results with?

HOLY CRAP. I wonder if you can Crossfire that sucker. I think you just need those three-way Crossfire motherboards and put the cards onto the left and right slots.

That is one Frankenstein of a card. But three slots?...no thanks.
Also...why have the old blue VGA connector? Anyone getting this card should certainly be playing at high resolutions.

The DVI interface uses a digital protocol in which the desired illumination of pixels is transmitted as binary data.
When the display is driven at its native resolution, it will read each number and apply that brightness to the appropriate pixel. [remember this bit-K]
In this way, each pixel in the output buffer of the source device corresponds directly to one pixel in the display device, whereas with an analog signal the appearance of each pixel may be affected by its adjacent pixels as well as by electrical noise and other forms of analog distortion.
Hope that explains things a bit better.

well ty I was too lazy to explain what the dif is Just don't like when I see people bash VGA out when its not actually low res. I have talked to people who think VGA only outputs 1280x1024 and lower. After showing them an LCD running at over 1600x1200 on VGA they got it....

Nice card an all, but what were they thinking putting a D-sub (VGA) connector on it? Nobody who buys one of these will be hoking up a monitor to it with D-sub. That would just be stupid.
Oh, and I love how a single GTX 280 beat a monster-cooled 4870 X2 in BiA:HH. Made my day.

All with a VGA connector, people DO use them still -.-
So the GTX BARELY beats the 4870X2 in ONE game, then in every other game, the 4870X2 destroys the GTX280, and in some cases even beats the GTX280 in SLI. So it wins in one game, whoop-de-doo -.-

All those monitors come with a choice between analog or digital with the proper cabling. I think the point thats trying to be made is, why buy a 500 dollar card if the only choice you have for your monitor is analog? I doubt anyone would use the D-sub connector over the DVI to HDMI connector since as stated above...digital will give you the better picture.

Exactly. Nobody in their right mind would use D-sub over DVI or HDMI if they have the choice. Instead of putting one of each connector on that card, they should have gone with 2 (or more) HDMI ports and one 9-pin S-Video (VIVO) port. We really don't need DVI or D-sub ports on video cards anymore, people. You can just use an adapter off HDMI if you need DVI or D-sub connectivity. Look, all the monitors are going HDMI now, and all the flat-panel TVs have already gone HDMI. Why are we still putting DVI and D-sub ports on the back of video cards? Are HDMI-to-DVI adapters really that expensive?
