LONDON (Reuters) - A British woman is divorcing her husband after discovering his online alter-ego was having an affair with a virtual woman in the fantasy world of Second Life, media reported on Friday.

Amy Taylor, 28, said her three-year marriage to David Pollard, 40, came to an end when she twice walked in on him watching his online character, Dave Barmy, having sex with other virtual women.

When her boyfriend/husband:

- (just) looks at other women = cheating
- talks with other women = cheating
- has women (as friends, which is possible) in his IM = cheating
- chats with women (as friends, not for dating) = cheating
- has sex in a videogame with a female character = cheating

If a woman would be dating another man, it would be the fault of her current partner as well and the defense/offense would be: "I'm missing something and i have my RIGHTS!"

So in fact when you would change the above checklist from man to woman, cheating would change into "she's missing something".

I just LOVE equal rights!

In all fairness to the woman, there's a difference between having sex with a piece of code (i.e, Mass Effect) and having sex with a piece of code that represents and is controlled by another consenting adult.

I think she over-reacted, but it's akin to phone sex. If I walked in on my girlfriend having phone sex (twice), I'd be a little worried.

my take on it is that this women has a bit more wrong with her and her relationship than meets the eye if she cut her relationship because of a fictitious game.

Honestly, if my lady found me doing this in an MMO she would laugh her ass off.. either that or say "psh.. you're a loser". But would she leave me? Not a chance.

Well all those points are alright but sometimes

- has women (as friends, which is possible) in his IM = cheating
- chats with women (as friends, not for dating) = cheating

those two should be left out in a serious committed relationship. i.e - married couple, it sometimes leads to unwanted drama and it's proper ethics in married life.

- has sex in a videogame with a female character = cheating

as for that, second life is in a league of its own, its an actual person controlling the female character. so yeah.. could count as cheating in this case because the the guy wasted his time doing a virtual girlfriend than doing his wife. (IMO. Dumbass)

I have some female friends and i chat with them from time to time. Chatting doesn't equal cheating or trying to get intimate. By your logic, i should tell them that i can't talk to them anymore due to having a gf? Total BS.

And btw, where's the line when talking about having virtual sex? Of course another person is controlling the female character, but who says it IS a real life female person controlling it? Can someone also be brought to court for virtual rape?
