Default tried hooking my computer up to my 52' - 09-28-2008, 18:49 | posts: 175

a while back i had some video files iw anted to playback over the tv for the family, so i hooked up the computer to the 52' through dvi. the problem was one i wasnt expecing and have no idea how to fix........the tv was extremely blurry so i checked the settings inside nvidia control panel (im using a geforce 9600gt) and the tv resolution was something like 704x480 i belive, its been a while so im not sure on that number, also the refresh rate was at 30hz i think

anyway, the tv itself is a 1080i hdtv, but i couldnt change the resolution so everything was bunched up together having such a small res, when i would try to goto 1080 all i got was snow on the tv and the refresh rate made it hard to even look at the screen it hurt your eyes so much

so the question is, what did i do wrong? how can i get a 1080 resolution to display correctly so i can play back those files

the tv is an rca 52inch projection screen

hope someone can help, thanks in advance

If you notice below, the specs say resoluton is 1097 hor., so 617 is ver.
In Nv Control panel > Advanced Settings > Manage Custom Resolutions Click the TV icon, then Click Create... Try filling out as follows - Hor. 1097 Ver 617 GDI Ref 60 Bits 32
Now, Click the Test button if it works every thing should be fine (you may need to Restart). If not, insert the Hor. and Ver. aspects mentioned in the TV manual and try again.

Your display is not progressive scan, it displays natively interlaced, as in lines not pixels. Many CRTs will not even accept progressive resolutions such as 720p. You need to figure out how to output 1080i from the video card. There should be an option for this in the nVidia control panel.

In NV Control Panel, > Video & Television > Adjust Video Image Settings, be sure that the box Use Inverse Telecine is unchecked for the TV or it will not work as an interlaced signal.
Also, in CP, > Manage Custom Resolutions > Create,,,, when the gray box comes up, you'll see a small box in the lower left corner marked "Interlaced". Be sure and put a check in that box before hitting the test tab.

sorry its taken so long to reply to my thread, but i jsut got back around to trying to get this thing working again. @ the bolded parts......unchecking the first option did nothing, and the second option is greyed out, but checked. so i cant change that at all

ok onto the new stuff....

ive been reading more into other peoples problems and how they solved their issues but nothing works for me, my manual says its capable of 1920x1080

i bought a s-video cable to try and see if that made a difference, same thing happens with it just like using the dvi cable. very fuzzy image that hurts your eyes to look at for more than a minute. max resolution is 720x4something if i recall correctly

setting custom resolutions always fail, ive tried the ones listed in this thread step by step, no luck....

im about to go in there and try this again and mess with some settings on the tv, if my eyes dont burn out first

try the hyperpowergate navigational lightspeed input

on as serious note try buying a better HD cable often the problem is because of the cable.

Due to a lack of bandwidth, S-Video connections are generally not considered suitable for high-definition video signals
carries 480i or 576i resolution video, i.e., standard definition

I have a feeling this has something to do with your Hz rating your projection is refreshing at. I know that if I try to force a resolution/hz rating in a game my monitor goes black screen till I fix it to a proper hz/ resolution combo. Could this be the issue?
