Wow! Great finding, Watcher!

They really should include those with every motherboard and make them the standard...

Been using these:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0282492
for about two years.

Sometimes they latch too well, I need a screwdriver to get them loose!

I have problems with the SATA power cables coming loose though.

Yeah, I saw this video on [H]. At first I was thinking, is this new to these guys?!? But then realized they're referring to the OEM cables that come with the motherboard.

Western digital do a combined sata power and data cable that locks, but the damn thing is £10+ instead of 80p I paid for a normal cable.

I'd never seen latching SATA cables until I got the gateway I've been slowing upgrading the crap out of. (from E4500 with onboard graphics and 3gb DDR2-667 to now a Q6600 with HD4850 with 4gb DDR2-800) They are a great thing and should come standard with harddrives and motherboards.

I was installing my new HD last night and thought about why the SATA Cable on my DFI was a bit different ..I felt something was missing till I saw the video,,yep my old Gigabyte had that latch (unfortunately its with my PC back home lol)

PS

so what would happen if a SATA cable comes loose? BSOD? or hardware failure?

Ain't bad, my mobo came with em but I'm using some UV ones, some have em some don't. No worries though, I have all my SATA ports set so that they are hot swappable. If any of them fall out for whatever reason that may be, It's not going to cause any signifigant damage.

What a stupid idea, locking sata cables. Who would try and steal them anyway?

Sounds like a marketing gimmick...

But seriously......

Never had any issues with the sata cables coming loose..
And even if, when cleaning the comp every now and then you can push them back in, incase they've come a lil bit loose..

It's not like they're jumping all the way out every 5 minutes..
