Default using my old xfxf 9600gt as a physx card - 08-09-2008, 23:05 | posts: 1,409 | Location: Venezuela

well gurus as the tittle said, im about to use my old 9600gt as a physx card, i just read the article and it great to know i can do that, but i have some doubts about it..

1) Now there's a thing you will need to be aware of in the Multi GPU mode, it's actually a Vista limitation but a second monitor must be attached to enable PhysX running on the second GeForce GPU. You must extend your Windows Vista desktop onto that monitor.

To bypass that issue, most monitors have a standard VGA and a DVI connector, right? Just use both. This limitation is related to the Windows Vista display driver model (WDDM). This limitation does not exist in Windows XP. In NVIDIA's upcoming drivers, they will be offering a workaround to improve the experience for Windows Vista users.

ok it said that is only in windows vista, im using xp, and i wanna know if i only gonna use one dvi conector (from my n9800gtx) to my monitor (my monitor has two conector, dvi and vga)

OR

I gotta plug both conector, i mean, the first one (dvi conector from my 9800gtx) to the monitor, and the second conector (the vga coming out from the 9600gt) to the monitor..

little help plz..

ps. this setup will gave me an extra fps in games ?

Yeah I think you can plug both into the same monitor. I'm on XP and it defaults to SLI mode. But you can go to multi display mode when plugging another monitor in. This way you can specify one card to do graphics and the other to do PhysX. I have not noticed much difference yet between the modes however. But I have a GX2 and both cards are GTS's so if you have two different cards you might have to hook up both cards to a monitor(s) to select the least powerful one to do PhysX.

Just plug them both in the motherboard. Hook the monitor to the 9800GTX and see if PhysX is enabled. If not plug the 9600GT into the same monitor.

You will get more fps in games that use PhysX yes. Because the video card can process pyhsics much faster than a CPU. But most important, much better explosions etc.

im having problems with this, i mean, i just plug the 98gtx to the monitor (the dvi cable) and the display looks TERRIBLE BAD, i mean, resolution is set in 600*400 as default and colors at 4 bits, and it does not let me to set it normal, and the nvidia panel dissapear.. i dont know what im doing bad.. so i decided to remove the 96gt and everything returns to normal..

iŽd like to have m 96gt as physx card.

help -.-

You need to reinstall video driver.

XP should have that issue as far as i know. Also, if you only have 1 gfx card then its fine (again, as far as i know).
Oh, and it will depend on the game i guess, but i believe that the fps in general will be lower, because after all those extra stuff are calculated, the gfx will also need to render them on screen.

So... wait.... if I have an 8800GTS as my PhysX card do I have to put my video monitor connector to the 8800GTS??? I don't have vista; I'll get it when it gets better.
