I just bought this new drive LG dvdrw 22x sata

Using it to install xp sp3 leopard edition, all went smooth no problem

Problem

even after a fresh install windowsxp sp2 standard, the drive won't function properly, it can't erase my dvdrw, always end in an error message, and when it read cd, it read so slow with tik tik tik sounds

It does sound like a defective drive. Try using a comination or other CD/DVDs and/or drives.

This guys problem is similiar to me, except he use pioneer sata dvdrw, he saids about incompability between sata dvdrw with nforce 410 hiks
