Default HD4870 Fan Control - 07-29-2008, 09:42 | posts: 20 | Location: Germany

Hi, maybe someone know any good Fan soft for HD4870 Powercolor. My GPU temp is always over 80 °C (not overlocked) i using GA-EP45-DS3R mainboard. Thanks for help Gurus!

EDIT:

First of all thank to Gurus! =)

So I figure out that the best temp for idling and for small games (not so noisyyyyyy) is 45% for games like Crysis 60% is enough! So youll have 55-65 °C temperature as I read in ATI manuals this temp is okey.

How come you have a core clock set at 500mhz? Isnt the default for 4870 750mhz?

Here's what I found on my system, temperature vs fan speed:

So a fan speed of 30-35% is sufficient to get the idle temperature to an acceptable level. For gaming I recommend 45-50%, but you'llhave to experiment. Just make separate profiles for the fan speeds you need and try them out.

I also have 500Mhz reported in some tools, others show 750Mhz and some show both. Not sure what it means, but I'm sure my card works fine Maybe it's some throttling, or 2D vs 3D?

A HUGE THANKS! Working fine, but temperature are still so high I put it to 100% and maximum temperature i have by idling is 55%.

Cant find any posts about HD4870 with water cooling systems. Any ideas maybe some of your friends trying to cool it with water?

With GPU Clock 500Mhz and Memory Clock 810Mhz with 100% Fan I cooled it too 50 °C. That means that my problem is 100% solved!

Thank you Gurus!

Are those idle temperatures? It seems that needing 100% fan speed to get those temperatures is a bit too much. Sounds like air flow in your case is not very good.

yes still way to high for a fan speed of 100% - ive got mine running at 35 % idling at 45c / 60 c at full load and its overclocked to the max ccc limit - btw when this card is idling the clocks automatically drop to 500 / 900 so don't worry about that..

Have to agree I'm folding with 99% GPU load@50% Fan and 62C, ambient temp here is about 14C. You may want to consider removing the HS and refreshing the TIM with a quality product.

the gpu jumps from 500mhz to 750mhz when load is put on it

and i only need 30% fan speed to get a nice 50c idle and 70c load

just type in the run bar ...dont try and find it by looking in folders its just impossible lol

C:\Users\kylzer\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE just replace kylzer with your windows username

The folder is hidden by default. Go to Tools/Folder Options/View in explorer and check the 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' option. That should do the trick.

You don't need to do that btw, if you just type it in the white bar near the top of the window (long white bar/space) and press Enter it does the same thing without having to change the options...

That's a good tip, thanks. Though personally I usually make less mistakes with clicking buttons than with typing a 30+ character folder path
