GeForce 9800 GTX+ SLI test
You know I predicted that the GeForce 9800 GTX model is going to be a pretty popular product. Honestly it's really good value and performance for just over 200 USD. A price...

Far from screwed. That card looks impressive. I would surely pick it up instaed of 4850. Cooling, speed is equal to 4850, I happen to like Nvidias drivers more, etc. A bit extra at price isnt that bad.

Nobody mentioned so far that the 4850 has DirectX 10.1 support, which the 9800GTX+ obviously doesn't have...and nobody probably is going to need. LOL

I also agree with this statement:

is that the temps of your case with 4850 cf? 310c or f? lol
you will never give props to a gtx+ even when they are do.

BTW boss did you use a ddr3 mb for testing the 4850 cf?
i wonder if that had anything to do with the close game results?

not to mention you really cant oc the 4850 nearly as well as the gtx+ even with a aftermarket cooler.

imo there is hardly anything to choose between these cards. 9800gtx+ is cooler, but slightly more expensive with slightly lower performance. tbh if you've got an intel board the choice is obvious, if you've got a nvidia board the choice is also pretty clear. I call this round a draw.

cowie, you love nVidia, we get it...

A majority of people will not overclock anything on their card, so the stock tests are perfect for comparisons. HD4850 crossfire was consistently faster than 9800GTX+ in SLi for about $50 less overall price. ($350 compared to about $400) how can you still talk about this as a huge success for nVidia? If you want to get them, that's fine. I'm sure they overclock well just like most cards these days. Just don't talk about them like they are the new card to have. Like said above, depending on your motherboard, either one would be fine. Personally, I think Intel motherboards offer a lot better features, so I would probably get the 4850's and an X38 mobo. If you already have an SLI board, then the 9800's make sense.

Single card though, the 4850 is faster for less money, especially with AA/AF. Seems like an obvious choice to me.

I was hoping the gtx+ would have 1gb of memory on it, this would have made more sense than 512mb, the sli performance would have been a lot more impressive at high resolutions.

Good review. I was one of them who was wondering about the SLI v Crossfire and clearly AMD has a winner here. Viva competition!

Being that the 9800+ is 55nm how is the overclocking?

Don't get me wrong. I've been in the nVidia camp for years now. ATI products were just a bunch of crap. Up until now. And when the 4870x2 comes out nVidia will be very screwed. Very screwed indeed. Even more than now. ATI has done a miracle. Made me want an ATI video card. Only one thing remains uncertain. And for that I think I'll wait a little longer (meaning I'll wait for nVidia's response to this attack form ATI). And it is this. If the GTX280 was GDDR5 instead of GDDR3 would it outrun the 4780 badly? If so (and I do hope for this result) I'm staying with nVidia. Come on, little "n" blow us away again! I really want a new card that can crunch up some serious stuff!

Ati got spanked. Thing is, even with higher framerate it still has uneven performance. That and you can cook dinner on the radeons.
