Is EVGA a better brand than XFX, or are they pretty much the same?

They are about the same. You can pick up which one you want... Cheaper the better?

Well, cheaper the better only applies if the quality is good and the components are what you are looking for, correct?

That. You could also go with some Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 if you liked. All depends how much you want to spend really.

Antec 1200 case - $168
Antec TPQ-850 850W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply - $140
EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - $230
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model - $175
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $80

Total so far $793

I think this is the direction I am going, just need to pair the mobo up with some ram. Any suggestions?
Sticking with current 7800 gt card for now unless I can pick up a cheap 8800gt for the time being. Gonna wait out the video card war a bit longer. Sound card I will probably skip, the onboard should be good enough for me.

Anything else I am missing?

The optical drive, any suggestions? Need a DVD burner with lightscribe.

No. You get sata cable with mobo and power cable with psu. Software is not included.

BTW. I think Lighscribe is useless, lightscribe dvd's cost much, anything you print to dvd doesnt look very good and it's only black and white.

In regards to ram.....

DDR2 1142 (PC2 9136)
DDR2 1100 (PC2 8800)
DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000)
DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)
DDR2 533 (PC2 4200)

This is the breakdown right? So what are the differences? The higher the number the faster and more $ right?

So essentially, this MOBO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188024

will only support slower ram right?

You can use any ram. DDR2 800, 1000, 1066 are the highest you really need to go right now.

Don't worry. It says that but you can run DDR2 1000/1066 with it. I before my G.Skill's I had 2x1GB DDR2 1066 on my old setup. The board said standard DDR2 800 but the DDR2 1066 worked flawlessly.

Not that I don't believe you, but are there any reviews of this board that echo the same sentiments? My worst fear would be getting all these parts and then having incompatible ram and MOBO.

Now according to the EVGA webpage, the card I am looking at does support increased ram speed.

http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?...rboard%20Family

Memory
4 x 240-pin DIMM sockets
Dual Channel DDR2
Maximum of 8GB of DDR2 533/667/800/1200MHz SLI-Ready memory

Yet the newegg pages only list ddr2 800 as supported

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813188024

This is the same card right?

I second that. Better get a good quality inkjet printer, and buy printable DVDs, they're roughly the same price as normal DVDs, and you get nice looking color picture.

So for memory, is any 1 or 2 companies much better than the others, or at this point in time are all the companies pretty much equal in their offerings?

I like the names G.Skill and Patriot the best, but that's besides the point. lol

So DDR2 1066 4gb 2x2 would be the way to go with that EVGA mobo?

So of all the Ram choices on this page...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=4GB+(2+x+2GB)

What would be the best choice for this EVGA MOBO?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188024

I'm not really sure of what I should be looking for in good ram...

Any of those. Also try to compose everything into a single post. You're like spamming your own thread and looks like you're trying to get your post count up.
