This would have been the type of build I would have looked at... 4 years ago. e8400 is past its prime. You should be looking at quads by now.

So with Ivy Bridge out today, I am looking to do so? Either upgrades.
Intel 3570k paird with the Asus P8-Z77 Pro mobile.
Microcenter has the 3570k for $189 and the Asus mobo for $220, but with a $50 instant rebate.
Looking for 16gb of ram but don't see any good deals on that front microcenter.
Thoughts?

Finally made the plunge. Just bought the Intel 3570k for $189, the Asus P8 Z77 Pro motherboard for $169, and corsair vengeance (cmz16gx3m4a1600c9b) ram 4x4 = 16gb for $100. Total was $501 including tax.
Thoughts?

Back in January and February I was seeing incredible ram deals every day on newegg. Not really seeing that now. And yes $100 for 16gb of ram is awesome considering what that would have cost a few years ago.

It's generally recommended to do a clean install when switching from HDD to SSD to get the best performance from the SSD.

Not all of us have MicroCenter as an option. Their discounts usually don't apply to online sales and they won't ship most processors. Closest one to me is a 7hr round trip....

You can get 4GB of ram for $20.....so how are "the days of cheap ram" over? Looks to me like ram is extremely cheap.... I still remember when 1GB was well over $100.... Hell, first 1GB set I bought cost me around $250...

I found a spare Western Digital WD800JD lying around. Google claimed it is a 7200 rpm sata drive. I can use this for the OS on the Raidmax rig and put a WD 1tb green drive in it as well. I also have an old WD 160gb IDE drive. Should I consider using the IDE drive or has time passed it by?
