Ok ill make this brief and too the point.. Im ready to upgrade my original Audigy1 soundcard to somthing a little more elaborant.. I will be hooking the new card up too my aged Harmon Kardon AVR25 II reciever via 1/8" phono plug to RCA jacks and in the Aux input of the reciever.. The reciever is about 10 years old and unfortunately has strictly analog inputs.. It does have awesome sound though even with my present Audigy card. I will also be hooking up Sony headphones and mic to the new card.. What card would give me the best sound all around for this particular setup? Im currently looking at:

Auzentech X-Fi Prelude is downright the best choice if you are going to play games. For general dvd/music the Xonar might suffice but I would still recommend the Prelude over anything else even with the few issues it has, its still my preferance of choice for now.

Agreed there, every time I hear this sound card the better it gets, brilliant card, well worth it's price as it's the top card for gaming at the moment (and for music/dvds in my opinion)

Yep, another vote for the Prelude. Though the X-Mer would be in contention too if they were still available.

We should have a sticky with guildelines for people on which sound card to buy with the different categories, gaming/recording/asio/movie_hometheatre/htpc/lowbudget ect. I see this question pop up a lot.
