Nvidia Forceware 177.39 + NVIDIA physX 8.06.12 -
06-19-2008, 18:49
| posts: 113 | User is Offline
Today, NVIDIA officially launched GPU acceleration for PhysX when they released
the PhysX driver version 8.06.12 which enables PhysX acceleration for the following cards :
GeForce GTX 280
GeForce GTX 260
GeForce 9800 GTX+
GeForce 9800 GTX
You will need to install the latest 177.39 ForceWare driver in addition to the PhysX driver. At this moment,
PhysX support has only been enabled for those four GPUs. NVIDIA will progressively
enable PhysX support in the other GeForce 9 and GeForce 8 graphics over the next few weeks.

how do you test it?
dont forget this is on an 8800gts 512 (which does have a g92 core) and even in the nv_disp.inf file my card falls under
"%NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0600.1% = nv_G9x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0600"
"NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0600.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512""
btw to the original poster thanks for the drivers mang.

I would suggest by visual comparison {Removed game references as the did not support PhysX as I first thought}
I'm at work for another 3 hours so can't test.
EDIT: apparently there are physx demos accessable via the physx control panel, this is from another forum

physX demo's included with it in the demo section of the PhySX control panel

Intsalled both driver and latest physx but GPU is not recognised as physx capable.

Here's the modded inf for the XP 32-bit international version (above) incase anyone wants to try for themselves, should work with all cards.
Modded_inf_Geforce_177.39_XP_32bit_international_8 kb
Edit: I see the above driver links are no longer functioning, you can get 177.39 Xp 32-bit international with modded inf included from the link below, should work with all cards.

You can get the Physx driver here:

Yeah it was a typo in the title
Well I can run the demos, I'm pretty sure I could before too but it just doesn't recognise any physx hardware on the main physx page.

I wonder what the effect on framerates are. The CPU is doing less work so maybe CPU centric games like FSX might get a boost if they use physix ;p. Or you might get worst performance because your GPU is crapping out.

Even though I test nearly every driver I'm just loving 177.35!
Since theres no 8800gtx support I'll be skipping this one and wait patiently for the next version.
Hopefully in a few weeks everything will be worked out and run properly
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_physxgames_home.html
I only have "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas" from that list anyway so is nearly useless for me right now.
Re-testing Cell-factor maybe interesting?
Hope more devs now use physx!
