Default Onboard Gbit LAN can't connect to the internet (GF8200 chipset) - 05-29-2008, 05:13 | posts: 4,364 | Location: Omicron Persei Windows 8 Pro WMC

I got a new mainboard today since my previous one got busted and it uses the Geforce 8200 chipset, which is pretty new. I'm having problems though with my onboard LAN trying to connect to the internet with Vista Ultimate 64.

It keeps whining about limited connectivity. I like Vista and all, but the damn network thing is one thing that i really hate about Vista (XP is just plug in and it works). In Vista, it has to identify every freaking LAN port and it's identifying my wireless countless times.

How can i get on the internet with my onboard? Resetting and changing IP won't work. I'm using the nForce 18.11 driver set.

This is my mainboard: ASRock K10N78hSLI-1394

Limited connectivity means that it recognizes it's connected to a router, but the router itself is not connected to the Internet. Are you using a router?. Have you set up a MAC addresses filter?

The router IS connected to the internet. I'm having a cable connection and the cable modem is connected to this router (Belkin F5D7235-4).

I'm inserted an USB wireless stick and that one can connect to the internet on my router without problems. I also tried other routers lying around and the same story. I can't connect to the internet with my onboard LAN. I've put in an Gbit NIC in my rig and that one can connect to the internet without problems.

My previous mainboard also had Nvidia LAN (nforce 560SLI, which was a relabeled NF4) and that one has no problems as well.

No matter what i select with networking properties (flow control disabled, auto nego, checksum things to disabled) it still can't connect to the internet.

Alright. Does it get a correct IP address from the router?. Does it get DNS server addresses?

Inside control panel, double-click on the Local Area Connection, then go to the Support tab and click on Details. You should see several entries for "DNS servers".

No, that is not what that means.

Limited Connectivity means that it has detected that its physically plugged into another networking device but that communications are not happening usually due to a configuration error (No IP address, wrong or missing default gateway, etc)

Try resetting Vista's stack, open a CMD window (DOS), type, netsh winsock reset .

May not be your problem, but resetting the stack helps many problems with internet/NIC drivers.

You could also try, netsh winhttp reset since you mention crashes while surfing, but I would try the first one.

That did not work. I'm currently using a PCI Gbit NIC for my wired connections, but i will get a PCI-e NIC soon. I've read that many peeps are having connection problems with the 8200 chipset and onboard LAN, so i'm not the only one.

Shame on you Nv for screwing that up.

Try Nforce 1808 drivers.
http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.as...-1394&s=AM2%2b

Have you tried disabling TCP/IP v6 and manually setting the IP for TCP/IP v4 and with your routers IP as the gateway? Also try uninstalling the NICs drivers from device manager and installing the latest drivers again. Update to the latest BIOS and check onboard LAN is enabled in BIOS. You can also download drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer if you identify it's specific make and model number.
Link to ASRock FAQ regarding LAN problems.
http://www.asrock.com/support/faq.asp?c=General

If that does not work uninstall everything in your network connection properties (TCP/IP v4, Client for MS Network etc.) and then reinstall them.

What firewall product are you using?

Just Windows Firewall since my router has a good (according to reviews) build in firewall, but now my onboard LAN is suddenly connected to the internet. I haven't changed anything and it works all of a sudden.

Thanks for the help all.

Despite being a stupid lame Vista basher, the problem also occurred in the beginning in XP. XP also couldn't connect to the internet with my onboard, so i had to use a PCI NIC.

XP sucks huh? Can't even connect to the internet! /rant

But enough with that crap. Nvidia obviously doesn't know how to make working drivers. My guess is that the 8200 chipset is soooo new, that they don't even know how to make the drivers work in both XP and Vista.
