Some more info:

It seems that there is currently closed beta testing currently and that in a few weeks open/public beta's should be available.

Supposed supported nvidia GPU's (which appear to be those supporting CUDA).

Our GPUs are probably way more powerful than CPUs, so I guess it may allow people to do alot more folding.
Bad thing will probably be that you won't be able to set priority the same way, and will notice a huge FPS drop... My guess.

Wondering how this will effect running two clients on quads, and performance of dual core CPU's with the smp client. Once its out if it supports SLI my 8800 gts's will be folding as a pair as well coupled with the quad i should get some decent ppd.

ATleast ATI GPU folding this uses 1 CPU core + 70-100% GPU.
So u woud have only 1 core free with 2 cpu + gpu running.

On a reasonably powerful dual core I reckon you could do SMP and GPU2 combined if you up the process priority one above the SMP core priorities with much of a slow down.

Used to do this with the older GPU1 client on my machine.

Broke 600k today

Appy polly loggies for double post but Toms Hardware has release an interesting article.

Quote:
Santa Clara (CA) - During Nvidia Editor’s Day, we learned that Nvidia and the Folding@Home research group led by Vijay Pande are making final preparation to launch the first version of the Folding@Home client for Nvidia graphics processors.

The unveiling of the client is set for the next week as part of the launch of Nvidia’s GT200 GPU series. Owning such a card will have its benefits in Folding@Home and will outrun Radeon 3870 cards. The new GeForce cards are expected to hit more than 650 nanoseconds of protein simulation in a single day, while the Radeon HD 3870 is stuck at about 170 ns. The Playstation 3 is able to produce "only" 100 ns of simulation, while a quad-core CPU creates an output of just four nanoseconds. For those who are keeping count: The GeForce GPU will be about 163 times faster than a quad-core processor in this specific application.

Nvidia founded Team "Whoopass", which consists only of several computers that are running the Folding@Home GPU client. Even with just 4-5 test machines, the team quickly moved into the top 5% of all contributors by sheer processing power. Dr. Vijay told us that if only 1% of all CUDA-capable users would start using Folding@Home in their spare time, the Folding@Home machine would quickly be considered the fastest performing HPC computer in the whole world - hitting about 60-80 Peta FLOPS of processing power.

Folding@Home for Nvidia CUDA-capable graphics cards (GeForce 8 and above) should become available next week. The codename for this client is GPU2/NVIDIA. The GPU1 client was retired, while GPU2 client will continue to be updated for both Nvidia and ATI cards.

ATI was first with a client for the Folding@Home project, which was released back in September of 2006 for the X1900 series of cards. Back then, the cards topped out at 375 GFlops. The next GPU generation should provide more than double the horsepower.

I hope that it is true, I cant wait. I have been dreaming of a time where I can finally use my 8800GTS video cards to do some folding, if this is true next week will be a good day to Fold

Woah! This made me feel all warm and fuzzy! Finally gonna stop downclocking my SLIed 8800GTXes when not playing anything and put them to some useful cause! Although I am also worried about the raising temps and power consumption/PSU stressing (max Quad CPU and 2xGPUs simultaneously...) at the same time...

What about multi-gpu support?

We hope to have multi-gpu support in the future.

Not yet then, I imagine it'll be supported after the first beta client (similar to the first ATI release) - dont quote me on it though.

So far so good here, if on vista 64bit you should look at the 177.35 drivers.

I get 3400PPD out of it (thats 2000iteration per second on WU #5001).

Will be testing out GPU2 and twin SMP clients now.

Wish me luck

Make sure you have the client setup and also make sure your using the right drivers to match it (I had the same problem with the wrong drivers).

Here are the drivers for vista 64bit.

The new GPU must do SLI, because my single 8800gts320 is returning 2350ppd from project 5001.
