E8400 Installed on Asus P5N-E-SLI Overclocking Problem

Has any one been able to get a good overclock using an Intel E8400 CPU and Asus P5N-E-SLI mobo? If so, how did you do it? Thanks.

You have to go to the Jumper config in your BIOS. Then you have to set overclock to manual, and adjust your FSB to the desired frequency. I use mine at around 1650MHZ (3.3Ghz effective). Adjust your CPU voltage from auto to around 2.8V (Don't go over 3.3V i would say. )

*Remember overclock in increments.

Do not do 2.8v!!!

Some people use 1.4 on the 8400. Best not to go higher than 1.37 though.

Update to the latest Bios from Asus website to see if it helps , it helps mine overclock better with latest Bios, thats in my P5K-Deluxe. Running 24/7 at 4.1 with only 1.39v. and a thermalright Ultra 120 Xtreme.

I found a posting on the Asus website where an OEM builder stated that Asus had provided a version 1001 BIOS that allowed the E8400 to be overclocked with FSB at 1600+ - that was about 10 days ago and although the writer said that Asus was going to post the BIOS on their ftp site, this has not happened.

Oh, by the way...the Asus P5NESLI Vcore adjustment range is .85 to 1.6 Volts, so there was no way that the "2.8 volts" typo on Vcore adjustment (that was recommended) posed a danger to burning-up the CPU.

Thanks for all the help. If and when I get this baby up to 3.6 GHz I'll post my solution.

To Bentfin im currently running the same mobo as u 0803 and am interested in buying either the e8400 or q6600.

Im currently running a C2D E6420 @ 3.23Ghz stable. However i've heard of OC'ing probs with these 2 chips on that board so wud also love to know how u get on b4 i buy
