Default RT/nTune fan control question. - 02-21-2008, 01:30 | posts: 17

Hi, just a quick question, I have a 8600gts in one of my rigs and noticed if I set Ntune to automatic fan control and then open RT's driver level fan control settings it shows them as set to direct control. If I set it to automatic in RT it pins the fans at 100%. Not a big deal I just let nTune reset it back to automatic.

I read the release notes does this have anything to do with it?

"Added 'Reference fan duty cycle' graph for NVIDIA G80 and newer graphics processors families. Please take a note that some G84 based display adapters use inverted PWM polarity fan control, which means that 'Reference fan duty cycle' displays inverted duty cycle on such display adapters as well as low-level fan control slider is inverted too. Inverted polarity issues can be resolved by adding such display adapters to internal fan controller database represented by [FANPWM] section of RivaTuner.cfg file. PWM polarity for such display adapters can be forcibly inverted by adding the entry identifying such display adapter to the database and specifying PWM controller ID with forced negative PWM polarity for it (84h). "

I know what the fan duty cycle graph is, it monitors the fan cycles, mine says 30% when the card is idle, i've viewed it before. But does the inversion deal have anything to do with what I mentioned in my first paragraph?

Hopefully this isn't a silly question.

Thanks.

What? Are you offended...again? Just a question, don't know if it's the driver, I assumed it was.

I worded the issue pretty plainly.

I have a 8600gts in one of my rigs and noticed if I set Ntune to automatic fan control and then open RT's driver level fan control settings it shows them as set to direct control. If I set it to automatic in RT it pins the fans at 100%. Not a big deal I just let nTune reset it back to automatic.

Titan72, fan control works in nTune if I set it to direct fan control I can bump the fan speed up and down. If I set it to automatic fan control in nTune it shows up as direct control in RT. Set it to automatic in RT it spins the fans at 100%. If this was covered then I apologize for missing it. Windows XP, driver 169.21.

I'll probably just leave it on automatic in nTune and let it be. Just wanted to see if anybody else noticed this on a 8600gts.

Just a follow up I uninstalled nTune and RT, rebooted and installed just RT, same issue, if I select automatic fan control in RT in pins the fan at 100%. I read the release notes again and I don't see anything relating to this unless I missed it.

Thanks.

Offended? No. Showed the door to those who cannot get it working and thinking that it doesn't work for all? Definitively yes.
It is much more easy to loose such users, than to clean your "F*ck it" posts in other threads.

So if somebody has a problem getting something to work with a program you designed you show them the door? You designed it, you should know it. Most people don't have all day to sit and sift through paragraphes of what works and doesn't work with the latest Nvidia drivers. I read through what I could before I posted and didn't see an answer. I was polite in my first post..you throw out a snide remark in your post.

Why are you here? You seem like a malcontent who creates a free program. Stick to sitting in your room creating a free program for people to use and don't post on forums anymore, your people skills suck. You found your one purpose in life..... creating RivaTuner... stick to just that. Sad, i've used this program for six years, didn't have any questions about it up until now, then the creater of the program turns out to be a pompous ass.

Anyway, i'm done here, sorry I even bothered to ask a question. I think any sane person or non-kiss ass who reads this will see that Unwinder has issues dealing with people.

Take care.

"pompous ass, F*ck it, drunken tirade "... Definitively enough of personal insults from your side. I'm just not working for guys like you. I'm asking you to leave the forum yourself one more time.
