Default `Threaded Optimization`- ??? - 02-17-2008, 10:56 | posts: 608 | Location: Hungary

Hi guys,

in the forceware control panel, this threaded optimization, what does it mean exactly? Is it meant for threaded games only or does it mean that the driver processes themselves will be optimized among the CPU cores, regardless of whether the actual game is threaded or not (this latter is how ATI Catalyst`s dual core optimization works)?

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that the threaded optimization only applies to games and such with the proper coding. Of newer games, they'll most likely support it, where older games do not. You can turn it on and off yourself, depending on the game, but Auto works fine.

It means the Nvidia driver takes advantage of multiple cores, but at the same time this advantage is very small because the most part occurs inside the video card, not the driver. Some older games like Quake 4 had incompatibility problems with this setting forcing the user to disable it so it is also related to how a game is programmed. This option works best when the game is also programmed to use multiple cores.

I read somewhere a while ago that when ATI introduced dual-core optimization for Catalyst, FarCry`s performance increased about 15% in CPU limited situations.
