I think black edition means you can manually set the multiplicator for the CPU, so you dont have to OC via FSB frequency.

I remember reading something like that...

Yep - the black edition comes with the multiplier UNLOCKED. Keep in mind however, that those CPU's *DO NOT* come with a packaged heatsink and fan, you will have to buy one seperately. And also they are reported to run quite warm, so you would need to get a decent aftermarker cooler.

I think the best option is the 5000+ black edition, is based on .65nm (6400 is .90, way hotter and power hungry), runs cooler and can overclock to 3.10ghz at default voltage.
Those settings i haven't checked myself, but seems a wiser choice.
About the cooler, i do have an arctic cooling freezer 64, and is very efficient, silent, do wonders with little money.

*** im not trying to knock your setup...but the arctic freezer 64 is only rated for 89watts and is not enough for the 125w 6400. it will run too hot. that said even the updated freezer pro model gets subpar reviews. myself i love the zalman 9500 or 9700, but there are other coolers out there. this site is probly the best ive seen regarding cpu coolers...

hope it helps.

One other thing about the 5000+ is that is only has 512 L2 cache per core, and the 6400+ has 1 meg cache per core.

I have a 6400+ and have not had any troubles keeping it cool, but that is at stock speeds so far. At idle it's 108°f and at full load the hottest I was able to get it was 130°f.

If you don't overclock get the 6400+, its 3.2ghz and has 1mb cache which you will definitely see improvements.

If you do overclock then save some money and get the 5000+ Black edition. YOu can easily overclock to 3.2ghz with no prob and up to 3.4 and even 3.5 if you want to get serious. It does just have 512mb cache opposed to 1mb (6400+) but the extra mhz you gain by overclocking it will cover that up and still perform good and better than a stock 6400+ depending on how much you oc it.

You'r quite right, i was refering to 5000 black edition.
And yes is right that only has 512k cache, but overclocks quite good and doesn't waste so much energy, ill post a good review when i find it back

Here it is, check this results, very in deep and compared to 6400:
