Default Image tearing ingame. - 10-10-2007, 22:19 | posts: 222 | Location: UK

Hi guys!

Well this problem has been going on for a while tbh, i have an x1900xt 512mb and have everything set to 'let application decide' in my ATi control panel. I noticed that i was getting image tearing when playing BF2, i dl'd some new drivers and again i was still getting image tearing.

I decided to put v-sync on in the ingame menus of CSS and 2142 (can't do it on BF2) and voila the image tearing had gone (strange i thought having v-sync enabled made the screen tear like crazy?). So ive had v-sync enabled for a few months and now all of a sudden im getting the image tearing back on BF and even Quake Wars. Ive just got Portal and it looks terrible with v-sync on and off!

Ive made sure that im up 2 date with drivers, i use driver cleaner and my card has an artic cooler fitted (hasn't gone over the recommended temp).
Basically in a nutshell does the card sound like its on the way out?

Hope ive made sense chaps and thx!!!

vsync will get rid of tearing, maybe your vsync is not running correctly, also it may depend on your screen, lcd's generally get much more tearing than crt's. poor quality lcd screens generally get more tearing aswell.also you can use triple buffering so that vsync works at any frame rate.

you might also have vsync turned to "always off" in the driver control panel even though you have enabled it in game, so its not working.it should be in the 3d section of ccc.
