Default Which HDTV to choose for playing X360? - 09-29-2007, 11:38 | posts: 535 | Location: Hong Kong

Budget: US$4000
Location: Hong Kong
Requirements: 40" or above, 1920 x 1080 (16:9) full HD resolution, 1080i or above

*As I live in Hong Kong, it is not helpful of whoever suggests a US-exclusive brand. Please read this before posting.
*The big brands in Hong Kong are Sony, Sharp, Hitachi, Panasonic, Philips, Olevia...etc.
*I am looking forward to a LCDTV, not plasma TV. I know that LCDTV can eliminate the problem of light reflection, which is one of the reasons I want to get rid of my standard TV.
*IT IS NOT SIMPLY A NOMINATION THREAD. I would love to leave with a decision in mind.
*It is upsetting to tell you that even the biggest local forums in Hong Kong is immature. People post so casually that no conclusion can be drawn. I have spent a considerable time with Guru3d so I am confident about your wisdom.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm from Europe, the Netherlands to be more exact, and i have this HDTV: Samsung LE40M87BD. The site is in Dutch, but the specifications are in English, so it should not be that difficult. I'm not sure about the equivalent model for Hong Kong, but i believe it is the LA40M81B, at least when you compare the specifications its the same.

Now, the performance is quite amazing.. HDMI v.1.3 (225 MHz up to 340MHz bandwidth) and Dynamic contrast of 15.000:1 gives amazingly rich colors on 30bit settings with my PS3 (watching Blue-Ray movies.. not many games support 1080i/p yet).. not sure if the XBox360 supports HDMI v1.3 though.

The lowest price here in Holland is 1280 Euro,s (incl VAT) for the 40" model, which would be about 14190,- HK dollar, or 1827,- USD

Models vary from 40" 46" 52" and 70", so it's worth to check some of them out out somewhere, if possible.

Cheers, R

Thank, Ramses.
I promise to search the website of Samsung for greater details.
Before returning here, I surfed the NET for information of suitable models to no avail. Except Sony, very few manufacturers give a reference price so it is hard to decide.
Of course, my preference can be altered if I go into the mall myself but for now Bravia 46" W300 KLV-46W300A-E32 impresses me.
Any comments?

I went to an electronics shop just now and that visit was worth the time! I had collected the leaflets and studies them carefully.
Within say one week, I will be a happy guy sitting in the living room before a 42" Philips 42PFL9532/98 LCDTV!!!

LCoS has better black levels than DLP am I right? While DLP has better color? Or the other way around? I'm buying soon myself btw and 65" is what I'm after so LCD is not in the picture.
