I downloaded the driver, but it won't install on my HD 2600 XT...
Can someone please tell me, what patchscript I have to run or what else I have to do to make that particualr driver install with my HD 2600 XT?
Thanx!

Did you use the driver for the 2900XT or the 2600XT?
You need to use the specially modded driver intended for 2600XT ( http://www.newdisk.cn/?wesley8 )

Awesome.
But it would be better with 64 bit... (2gb of RAM are too few).
I hope that releasers will be able to make this in 64 bit too (XP & Vista).
Thank you!

nice, but nowhere near the ancient dailytech results for the HD2900@FireGL
while in previous generations there seemed to be not much of a difference in specviewperf results for the cheap and the more expensive firegl cards (e.g. modded x1600 and x1950 had very similar results), this time it seems you actually can get more than a 2x increase going from a 2600 to a 2900
we'll see, as soon as somebody posts the results for a modded 2900...

I'm interested in buying a new card for softmodding cause i'm doing a lot of cad: autocad 3dsmax revit...
so would a 2600xt be a good choice ? i now have a 7600gt (and that cannot be softmodded:-( )
on the other hand, i can get a geforce 6800gt for about 50$ on ebay
which of softmodded 6800gt or 2600xt will give me the best performance ?
can a 2600pro do as good - plus point being passive cooler!
thx a lot for giving me the best advice ;-)

According to me Quadro-modded Geforce 6800GT is a little less than twice worce than ATI 2600XT, modded to FireGL 5600. On the other hand, ATI 2600XT is more than 2.5 times more expensive. The choice is yours...

Well, it's getting hard to find 6800 GT & Ultra cards and usually, their warranty is either expired or you will get an unmodable 7xxx card as a replacement. Also, driver developement for those cards is kinda being suspended - for example, I found out that I will have to use the 91.36 drivers instead of the newest 16X ones if I want stability.
With the 2600XT, you get a new card with warranty, DX10 capability and further driver improvements.

"virtualex" scored over 90 in specviewperf 10 with 2600, and on my x1950xt moded I get 84 (test using one core on cpu)........ plus with 2600 you get DX10 support and it costs around 100$.
Im building new pc and canceled the order of x1950xt. I decided to go with 2600pro (128 bit). Probably my new pc will be ready tomorow for testing and I will post specviewperf results here.
If we could only do this mode on x64.........................

haha
just ran SPECview on my 7600gt and it scored a mighty 17,6 in Maya !
Well, I think i'm going for a 2600xt - price is about 120€ so great value i guess
Just one last question, though i'm not sure this is the right thread:
My motherboard is a asus a8n SLI premium (nforce 4);
will there be any problem running an ATI card on it ?

Here is another >200 maya score for a modded 2900XT
http://www.hardspell.com/english/doc...p?news_id=1363
really, am I the only one being way more impressed by v8600 than by v5600?
I know it's 240 euros more, and 50 more watts at idle, and 150 watts at peak, but it's twice as powerful...
yes, I know the results for HD2600 are great, but they were achievable before, it's just a matter of saving 50 euros, and doing without the higher power consumption and heat disipation of x1950

I guess that programmable ring-bus controller really does make a difference when it comes to drivers. Unoptimized, the HD2900XT gets whooped by the HD2600PRO. If those FireGL drivers aren't yet optimized for the HD2900XT@FireGL (ie. whatever it'll be called), there may be a boost in the score.
Recent reviews (ie. Xbitlabs) have shown the 2900 pulling up between the 640mb GTS and GTX on popular games so it may just take them a bit of time to optimize. Especially in the professional market, it would be very likely that they optimize.

I think the fireGL drivers for HD2900 are already properly optimized
the G80GL already gets is ass badly kicked by R600GL now: quadroFX 4600 and 5600 score 173 and 193 maya-02 in specviewperf9, respectively, according to nvidia's own information:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_11761.html
(those results are from a X6800 based system, a QX6800 might increase them a bit)
(and remember that a quadro5600 is around $3000, against $1900 for HD2900XT@FireGL aka V8600, there's some markup cutting you have to do there to get price in line with performance)
