Default ATT 1.3.6.1044 and Vista - 06-03-2007, 21:38 | posts: 178 | Location: USA

After finally getting the fan function to work under Vista Ultimate x32 (admin stuff) I ran into another problem.

I have the Vista Sidebar start up with Vista. It is configured to be 'on top'.
There are times that ATT does not see my X850XT fan and therefore contains no fan information. The only way I can get the fan info back is to close the sidebar and run ATT again.

The thing is, sometimes on a boot, ATT works fine. All the fan stuff is there.

It might be some sort of timing problem. I run ATT from my startup folder btw.

Try to change ATT statup mode in general settings.

Ray if you have Vista (I use Ultimate) you might want to recreate my problem in a simple way.

Assuming your vid card has a fan that ATT can control exit out of ATT. Open up and display the sidebar. If already displayed first EXIT out of it just don't close it.

So at this point there is no ATT running and no sidebar running.

Start the sidebar manually. Type sidebar in the search area of the Start menu to find it. Once the sidebar is up and running then start ATT manually.

The first thing I notice is that my fan does not go on. Looking at the fan section in ATT it says no fan detected. If the sidebar is not running and you start ATT there is no problems.

I played around and found that if I started sidebar as administrator then att will run perfectly even if sidebar is up and running.

Sidebar is started from the Reg. I tried to change permissions for it to give me full control but I always get an access denied message.

So what I did was take the sidebar startup out of the Registry and placed it as a shortcut in my startup folder. This way I am able to use the option run as administrator on the shortcut. I start ATT from the Registry.

It might be that ATT now starts before sidebar which is the reason it comes up fine when I reboot. But running sidebar as admin is just extra insurance.

Why does ATT have these permission/privileges problems? I had to look at some posts here to get it running the first time I installed it.

Try to add sidebar.exe into list of exception list in ATT's Autooverclocking dialog window.
I had no problems with sidebar and ATT when I installed Vista. At this moment I don't use sidebar. Very stupid thing, I never see my desktop when I'm working and sometimes this sidebar affects game play

I added it but I still have the same problem.

The only consistent thing is that when the sidebar is up and running (doesn't even have to be showing) I have to run my ATT shortcut which is setup to run as administrator. If I run the shortcut without admin I get no fan stuff.

As far as when I boot up windows it's basically a crap shoot if the fan stuff will get found. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. The same ATT shortcut is used, the one with admin.

Not to big of a deal I suppose. I can always end ATT and restart my ATT shortcut with admin again.

If you mean Radeon tweakers the answer is no.

I have 2 Vista tweaker programs plus I made a few tweaks myself. Nothing to any video stuff.

I don't have any other problems quite like my ATT fan problem.
