Workaround found! Read the 7th post on how to disable Protected Mode in IE7.

ATT 1.3.6.1041 causes IE7 on Vista to slow to a crawl when ATT is running. As soon as ATT is exited then IE7 will function as normal. I'm also noticing this same problem with Xfire. Does ATT use IE7 components to display things i.e. the Urlmon.dll file?

No problems on my Vista. Do you have installed any strange plugins for IE?

I don't think so and I've tried the Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) under Accessories | System Tools but the problem still persists. I have noticed in Xfire that if you right click a friend to view their profile, IE7 will pop up and function as normal.

So you have XFire start with ATT at same time?

No, what I mean is that they both cause the same problem when they are run independently with IE7. Xfire team said they found out what was causing the problem and said as a workaround to open Xfire first then IE7 after a reboot; that still didn't work. I found that info from the first post in this thread.

I got it! If you disable Protected Mode in IE7, ATT 1.3.6.1041 will not cause IE7 on Vista to slow to a crawl when ATT is running anymore. This also fixes the issue with Xfire!

To disable: Tools | Internet Options | Security Tab | Untick "Enable Protected Mode"

Protected Mode as given by Windows Help and Support is
Quote:
a feature that makes it more difficult for malicious software to be installed on your computer.

In addition to helping protect your computer from malicious software, protected mode allows you to install wanted ActiveX controls or add-ons when you are logged in as an administrator.

Protected mode is turned on by default in the Internet, intranet, and Restricted sites zones and an icon appears on the status bar to let you know that it's running.

In addition to warning you when webpages try to install software, Internet Explorer will warn you when webpages try to run certain software programs. You are warned when a software program would run outside of Internet Explorer and outside of protected mode, because that program might have more access to your computer than you prefer. This usually happens when a website is using an add-on to run a software program on your computer. If you are viewing more than one website at a time, check all open websites to be sure you know which one is trying to run the program before granting your permission. If you trust the program and want to allow it to run on any website, select the Do not show me the warning for this program again check box.

That is not really a workaround. It would be the same when I have to disable firewall and virus protection to get ATT to work. I will not disable Protected Mode. There has to be a fix for this in ATT!

Default Traytools slows down IE7 under vista - 06-03-2007, 01:33 | posts: 4

I am using TT 1.3.6.1044 with Vista premium and IE7. Video card is a 1950XTX. IE7 slows down to a crawl when TT is loaded. Its fine when its not loaded. For example the favorites window takes 25 seconds to display if TT is loaded, only 1.5 seconds if it is not. TABs are much slower as well. Firefox is not affected. I dont want to turn off protected mode either.

I have no ideas. First because I use FireFox and second because I don't have any problems with IE at all.

I guess once Xfire solves the problem with their application a similar fix could be available for ATT because both apps are experiencing the same problem.

What do you think about it? How it can be fixed on your computer if you will not install new build?

Yay, ATT 1.3.6.1047 works! Good job Ray!

I'm still having problems with suspending the computer though but this is an old problem anyway that dates back to Windows XP http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=211574

Nevermind my last post I just found the fix to allow my computer to enter a suspend state and resume from it as well. To fix this, disable "ATT Shared Memory" located under Tools & Options || General Options || Advanced Tab.

Please be aware that ATT Shared Memory is used to allow other application(s) to retrieve information about clocks, temperatures and general 3D settings.

Not only for this, but also in FlashOSD in ATT itself.
