Unhappy Rivatuner 2.0 please help :( - 04-07-2007, 02:50 | posts: 14 | Location: Hong Kong | User is Offline

hi guys, I've got a problem with my recent upgrade computer with Rivatuner 2.0 final.

The driver I used is Forceware 96.98

The problem:
I used Rivatuner to set 2 profiles, they are 2D low performance(default no overclocking) and 3D high performance(core 610 and ram 900), I put them in RT launcher and mapped keyboard hotkey to load profile Ctrl+F11(3D mode), Ctrl+F12(2D mode).
I tested it, it works flawlessly! but sometimes when I change the profile(whatever I use the hotkey I mapped or click the profile directly), the ram and fan speed will change but the core clock remain the same (default 513Mhz).
but if I goto the Nvidia control panel and click the 3D performaning setting page, do nothing and exit the Nvidia control panel. the rivatuner profile work again! the core, ram and fan speed works perfectly like I set in the profiles.

I've been uninstall the RT and forceware couple of times(with proper procedures, like safe mode, driver cleaner, delete nvstraps ...etc)
this still happens the same , though I found how to solve this problem *temporary* but this is very annoying, since I don't know when will this happen(this happen very randomly), so now every time I change the profile I have to open up the RT monitor and see if the core speed did change. if it doesn't that I have to goto NV control panel and exit then confirm the profiles work.

anyone please? very much appreciates and sorry for the long page for you guys to read

P.S I attached few screenies , in case you guys need them .

You must be in 3D mode to see an effect of loading a profile changing 3D core clock speed.

I'm not confused by anything. Study basics and read about driver-level built-in 2D/3D clock separation techniques. Profile is chaning only clock frequencies for 2D/3D performance levels, but doesn't cause some performance level to be selected by driver. For example, it means that if your profile defines 300/800 2D clocks and 500/900 3D clocks loading it will result in:

1) Telling the driver to use 300/800 for 2D performance level.
2) Telling the driver to use 500/900 for 3D performance level.
1) Setting 300/800 immediately if the card is currently in 2D mode, setting 500/900 immediately if the card is currently in 3D mode or doing nothin if the card is currently in low-power 3D mode

It is up to ForceWare to decide which performance level will be selected at the moment depending on GPU power needed.

I got it man, thanks. so RT overclocking is driver level instead of low-level controls.

one for question, why I change the profile in 2D environment and the ram will change? I meant, itsn't the ram speed also decided by forceware?

That's by desing of ForceWare and your hardware. Core clock is separated, but memory clock is unified for all performance levels.
