Default Servers for Guru3D - 03-01-2007, 05:06 | posts: 869 | Location: Canada

Hey,

I have recently been hired at a Game/Web/Voice Server hosting company. The reason I'm telling you guys this is because I can grab us a 25% off discount on any kind of server we want.
For example, I can get a 100tic 20 player CSS server for $52.50. The regular price would be $70.00. I should also mention that the servers are top of the line and the pings are pretty low!

This is a good opportunity for us to get a server or two for the clan if any members would like to donate. Since we can get servers cheaper, we can get more of them. For this to happen though, I need more members to donate.

So far Sirlink is the only one to donate, and he has generously given $15.

Thanks guys

for css a tick100 12 man is enough, there's no point in going higher, well maybe for pub, but then 16 will do. I'm saying this as we don't need more and it'll probably cut the costs a bit.

I'd donate if paypal would work with my bank card :@ maybe if I pursade my parents to buy a creditcard...

If you are going to make public server, then you should look for sponsors.

BTW. Is PayPal going to work with Visa Electron?

tbh a 12 man is enough, alot of clans even have 11 man servers, 10 players and the last spot being for a srctv. However with 12, we can have a srctv and if needed an cup admin or smt.

I agree with corrupt. If we have 12-16 man server it should be plenty. More just attracts pub nubs.

Well, I'm broke but maybe I'll be able to donate later. I also have some maps that we can put on (they are custom maps) and the maps are really fun (hint hint, TNT + big climbable tower).

Can you tell us how much it would be to run a 12-man 100-tic server off of your company? If you need to, tell me in a PM. Monthly payment plz unless it's significantly cheaper to do something like a year.

12 man private 100 tic 500 FPS with 25% discount = $45 per month
12 man private 100 tic 1000 FPS with 25% discount = $75 per month

Would it be doable to do a 12-man public without the FPS Boost?

If not, I think I'm going to look around.

In my opinion, a $75 (which is £38.5) 12-man server is very expensive.
For example:

A 24-man 100-tic no FPS boost (with the brand on it) from Jolt.co.uk is only £40 (which is $77.8) a month. A 12-man is £28 a month (which is $54.4)

A 1000FPS server is very expensive compared to a normal one. If jolts servers had 1000FPS they would be around $75 for a 12 man server.

Is the boost/money actually worth it? What exactly does a server 'FPS Boost' do? Overall improves the performance of the server? 12-man players shouldn't really have a performance issue.
And shouldn't we need more than a 12-man server?

Pretty sure with systems like ours we don't need any extra help.
Sorry for the all questions and I realise money is a problem.

I agree with killer. 12-man private 100-tic private servers with pingboost and FPSboost are not worth it. I'd rather look at a 12-man public without fancy addons, because not even low end pcs should have problems (in this case... these pcs should be upgraded). 12-man pub 100tic should run us around 40$. I'm looking around guys.

Guys .. I'do not mean to interfere ... but can't this be done much cheaper ? I was just looking at Dutch providers (private servers):

CS Source: 12 slots - 66 tick - free teamspeak -> 22 EUR a month
http://www.dutch-gameservers.nl/?/Order/2/28.html

Or look here:

Alright, but we have one problem, how good will this be for those on the west coast or midwest of the united states? I shouldn't have a problem, I am lucky to live on the east coast and have a fast net, but if someone has low-grade DSL and live in Cali... IDK.

But thank you very much Hilbert, we are very grateful to you.

Small note Hilbert, for HL2 engine games such as CS:S you need a 100 tick server. Most decent clans will refuse to play on anything lower then that.

The CCS server is 12 slot 100 tick private. It's based in the UK. I'm doing a 35ms ping towards that server.

Potyondi will have received the info by email as we speak. He just needs to login to the forums and check his PM
