Default New Vista drivers in the next few days. - 02-28-2007, 23:59 | posts: 7,291 | Location: The Netherlands

Hey all

I just got this email from nVidia:

Quote:
Dear NVIDIA Customer,

On behalf of the NVIDIA Vista Quality Assurance team, we would like to thank you for your participation and assistance in improving our products.

We are writing to let you know that there will be a new Windows Vista Beta driver release available to download from NVIDIA in the next few days. This is a new driver which will support GeForce 6, 7 and 8 series graphics boards; it does not support GeForce Go mobile GPUs. Please continue to check with your notebook manufacturer for a new driver for GeForce Go GPUs. GeForce FX users should continue to use the v96.85 driver.

The Vista Quality Assurance homepage has up to the date information on when the driver will be available to download, so please continue to check this website: http://www.nvidia.com/object/vistaqualityassurance.html.

Here is a summary of new features and bug fixes this new driver addresses:

New Features

GeForce 7 series SLI support
GeForce 6 series SLI support
GeForce 7950 GX2 support (both GPUs are now operational)
Key Bug Fixes

Improved OpenGL performance
Improved NVIDIA SLI performance at high resolutions
Brief corruption (flickering, boxes) on screen at Windows Vista login, CTR-ALT-DEL (Task Manager), or other function that requires Vista User Account Control
Playback issues when playing TV/DVD/video in Media Center with Aero enabled
Outputting via TV-Out shows only a black and white display
HDTV output does not keep HDTV resolution after restart
Adjusting Video Color settings from the NVIDIA Control Panel are not getting applied.
Change Flat Panel Scaling page does not correctly work in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Brightness, Contrast and Gamma values remain the same in Adjust Desktop Color settings once closing and opening the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Corruption on DVI monitor while going to hibernation from standby
Call of Duty 2 has no performance gain when SLI is enabled
Madden NFL 07 while playing the screen will freeze, but the game will continue to run and you hear the in-game sounds.
General application compatibility fixes

Products Supported
GeForce 8800 GTX/GTS
GeForce 7 series
GeForce 6 series
When the driver is available, please view the driver Release Notes for a full list of bugs fixed, known driver issues, products supported, and operating system and application limitations. NVIDIA will continue to provide new drivers that will fix more known driver issues.
So there will be new drivers soon

Nice!

Too bad they don't mention frame rate increases in DirectX 9 applications.

Bleh...I've given up on Vista. Just re-installed XP Pro again. All I can say is holy cow what a difference. MY fps in all my games have literally doubled. Don't think I'll be going back to Vista until Crysis launches....I'll miss the way Vista looks for now, but that's about all I'll miss.

I haven't had any problems with the 100.65's aside from the performance in certain games. Always welcome a new beta to play with though. /shrug

Since not everyone wants to be a beta tester for M$ and not everyone has been attracted into the pointless act (at the moment) of installing Vista and actually wanting to play games on it, I wonder:

What about some decent NEW XP drivers?! ATM there is only 1 (ONE!11one) official driver that works on my 7950GT. Atm I am using a beta drv. Ain't this crap? What is nVidia thinking about? Don't they know that only 1% of the people that are using nVidia are actually interested on playing games on Vista?

Ofc I could be wrong. There might be out there more poor souls that have been fallen victim to the marketing nets that are surrounding and tempting us to pay extra money in vain and to buy **** only bc it's wrapped in a beautiful box.

Or maybe us folks with our higher brain functions in full swing can see the potential in Windows Vista, can tolerate the 'workin out the bugs' phase of every new OS, and like to get in on the ground floor with new os's, so in 6 months when your noob ass is back in the forums asking how to do something, one of us will know how to help you out. Go complain on your own thread.

On the Creative X-Fi forums i once saw this community bitch saying that it might take as long as until MAY for vista drivers to appear.
People complain about nvidia, try buying an X-Fi amazing sound card, amazing lack of vista support.. 1 beta driver. 1..

I remember when xp came out and a lot of stuff wasn't supported on it. It takes time for everyone to catch up to the latest operating system. Vista has changes the way drivers interact with the hardware. Just wait a few more months and more things will work better with vista. XP is fine with me right now. Nothing I do needs me to rush to vista. I'd rather wait for the bugs to be ironed out.
