Default Athlon duo core reliable? - 01-17-2007, 21:33 | posts: 6

Would an Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Dual Core (2.4GHz / Cache L2 2x 512KB)
chipset ATI RADEON xpress 200
have a chance to compete with an intel duo core?

-Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4GHz / FSB 1066MHz / Cache L2 4MB / 64 bits / Dual Core)
chipset intel 975x

-Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13GHz / FSB 1066MHz / Cache L2 2MB / 64 bits / Dual Core)
chipset intel G965

From what I know.. the answer is not really... Core2Duo cpu's are the more efficient/powerful of the 2 at the moment.

They lose...pretty badly
If your building a new rig, no doubt go with a C2D but if your on AM2 or 939 just go with one of those X2's or Operton's.

Yep building new computer go core2duo but if your just upgrading then any x2 or dual core opteron will do just fine.

Only go Athlon64 if you have a tight budget and are using a lot of legacy hardware. (ie, PATA hard drives, DDR1 memory, AGP) Otherwise go with Core 2 Duo. The E6300 is a good choice for the budget minded.

and about overclocking, I have never done that before, is it safe, I know it is going to diminish the processor's life but in what speed?
Could it last for 5 years smoothly?

Probably as long as you don't take it too high. Ask someone more experienced with Intel.

It's not that AMD's not reliable, they are actually probably more reliable. It's just that Intel is quite a bit faster atm as Infested has shown. Take it from an AMD man, Intel easily wins this round
