Yo. Used to be into PC's a lot....Got out for a while and now I am getting back in! picked me up an upgrade that consisted of
Conroe e6300 Core 2 duo 1.86 @ 2.53
PNY 8800GTS
2 x 2GB DDR2 667 chips
Asus P5N-E SLI Nforce i650
OK. So far I have the core to 600MHZ and the ram at 1100Mhz (2200Mhz) Stock cooling, using riva tuner.
Been reading some and It seems this is quite good. Especially on the ram part of it. Just wondering if you guys have any tips on getting some more speed out of it.
And Whatcha think?

Thanks fellas. I have it running over night here. All this extra clock speed is from tonight so I wanna make sure it's 100% stable. So far, it's been a few hours and it's prime stable while running oblivion at 16x12 with all the eye candy turned on.
I'm going for more. I'll post back tomorrow after x-mas dinner with my results.
EDIT: messing with the core, got it up to 650 stable. 10K EXACLTY in 3dmark2k6 default BM. To clarify, thats at 650core / 1100 Mem

Not too shabby on the 8800GTS. Does the 650i series board let you run you memory unlinked from the FSB as well? That is a nice feature on the 680i boards, that even if your memory can't keep up you can still get a decent OC.

OK, Just got back!!! And my computer was NOT on fire!!! lol Everything was fine. To be safe I left the core at 650 and the ram at 1100. Rock solid. My CPU is also prime stable at 2.56 as I was running that WHILE I was running the game. WOW, this computer is so fast. I know most programs do not take advantage of dual CPU's, but the way you can run all these differant programs at the same time with very little lag is amazing.
I have an Artic cooling Freezer Pro 7 on my CPU. It has the temps on load acording to everest at 117-120F. Not to shabby.
I have a 80mm fan blowing past the north bridge heatsink. I did that when I started upping the FSB. Now the NB is cooler overclocked then it was when I had nothing on it at stock speeds. The south bridge is not cooled. NO heatsink NO nothing. It's warm....You don't wanna hold your finger on it, but it's stable :-)
Someone asked if the Memory was independant from the FSB. Yes it is. I did not know that when I ordered the board from newegg.com , but I kinda figured from what I read. My RAM runs at 667 just like it's supposed to. Now that I have the MB and CPU at a decent clock, and I have the videocard running like a duramax diesel, i'm gonna go and up the clock on the ram and see what I can get. Should be easy because I can go up 1 by 1......
O, the video card temps are low also. The Nvidia monitor is reporting 120F temps in windows and 150F temps in 3D games. Thats overclocked. I did use rivatuner to put the fan at a constant 80% on. It's a bit louder, but just below where the noise would get annoying. Nice feature to have. 80% seems to be fine. It used to never get anywhere near the fan speed I have it set on now, even in 3D games. Wierd.
Sence we are talking about mobo's a bit. I am curious. Do they lock down the clock's on the PCI/AGP/PCIe bus' nowadays? I am from the celeron 300a @450 and the pentiumII 300 @450 era of overclocking. Back then, all the expansion bus speeds would roll up with the system bus speeds. Which sucked because the PCI bus could handle about 43Mhz MAX, generally around 37 was tops. And the AGP bus would only fly to about 80Mhz before errors came up.

Yeah....if I move the core over 700 it starts to freeze instantly. I think 650 is pretty good. I would have to do the math, but I would think that with my card clocked where it is...It would give a 8800GTX a good run for it's money.
Got my system RAM stable at 733 to match my 1466 bus. Got 17 more 3Dmark points :-) I am debating if I should go more..........
No matter what I try with the CPU I can not get it to post at anything above what I have it at now. I even upped the voltage a tad and nothing. I think I am chipset limited.

I was able to run my card at 655 core and 975ram in 3d Mark 2006, but when tested with Atitool, the card is only stable up to 630/845.
Did you guys test your cards with Atitool? If not I suggest you download it. It's the best o/c test because it will automatically detect artifacts for you

Got the core to 590 and the ram at 975. 63 degrees celsius. NO errors from the artitfact finder in ATI tool for 5 hours.
I don't think I am going to be able to get it much higher. I am going for a safe overclock. This computer is fast enough as it is, and I want to make sure it will run good and stable for a couple years till I decide to get new stuff.
Gonna bump it up a notch, i'll post back later with the results.
